Summary: Great router. I stuck in 2TB HDD. Only reason I am giving it 4 stars out of 5 are the following: 1) Sluggish Interface. 2) Wish the ports were positioned for a bit easier access. Other than the 2 things above, this is an awesome router and works great.
its does exactly what i want it to do and im happy. best router ive gotten yet

Summary: Had a little trouble getting this thing to keep its wifi steady. I eventually fixed it by using the master reset so far i havnt had any further problems with it. its does exactly what i want it to do and im happy. best router ive gotten yet.
Summary: If you have an existing internet connected network, ignore most of what the installation guide says. If you have no use for the WAN port and do not need the DHCP, then you probably would want to use the wireless AP mode. this basically gives you a 5 port switch and a wireless Access Point.
Pros: Hardware itself is very good once you are able to get to the "Netgear Genie". The router has a DHCP server so it will generate a IP address for your computer. The router does exactly what I wanted by turning on the wireless AP mode. Can add a USB external disk and use it as a NAS.
Cons: Documentation included in the box is very for people with existing networks. It appears to be targeted to users setting up theor first network. The router I received had been on the self for over 15 months which may have been the cause of some of my problems. I do plan to install an internal disk...
Pros: After dropping wireless connections several times I was fed up with unit so started to play with settings and found that after setting the mode on 2.5k and 5 k to 217 I have had no more trouble with dropped wireless connection and speed is very fast. This has turned into a very good unit..
Cons: Had to play with settings. does not operate correctly at top speed settings.
Summary: So far overall the WNDR4700 is a good upgrade and for people who have no time to do backups. The auto-backup software is a great feature which I will test out in the coming months. It is a bit bigger than previous routers, but the lighting and the design is pretty nice.
Pros: The router is sleek looking. Many good points about the router. The USB 3.0 ports, the SD card port, of course all the LAN are Gb, good range and power, the hard drive bay and the software features. The Gb ports are what they are; speed tests show close to Gb speeds. Have not tried the SD port, b...
Cons: A couple of things. First off there are no lights for the LAN ports. So when you connect LAN lines to this router, you have no idea if they are connected or dead; only by using your computer. Usually they are lighted and color coded; yellow for 100Mbps speeds and green for 1000Mbps (Gb) speeds. S...
