Patients pays off

Shawn N., Newegg

  • Summary: The auto configure did not work with comcast modem I have so i configure manually and works great with no downtime.
  • Pros: Very good WI-FI range and data through-put, options to have hard drive installed inside.
  • Cons: Immediate firmware update needed, does have some fan noise, rather larger than other routers and could have done better with a 2.5" drive bay instead of the 3.5"

WNDR4700 Review

Steve C., Newegg
20 December 2013
  • Summary: So far overall the WNDR4700 is a good upgrade and for people who have no time to do backups. The auto-backup software is a great feature which I will test out in the coming months.
  • Pros: The router is sleek looking. Many good points about the router. The USB 3.0 ports, the SD card port, of course all the LAN are Gb, good range and power, the hard drive bay and the software features.
  • Cons: A couple of things. First off there are no lights for the LAN ports. So when you connect LAN lines to this router, you have no idea if they are connected or dead; only by using your computer. Usually they are lighted and color coded; yellow for 100Mbps speeds and green for 1000Mbps (Gb) speeds. So kind of a con there.

NETGEAR WNDR4700 WiFi router

  • Excerpt: With a hard drive fitted it becomes an excellent media server which integrates well with wifi enabled devices throughout house. Great for viewing movies through WD TV device on TV. Some reviewers have reported that the fan is noisy, but no more so than the cooling fans on the PC and like those fans you become deaf to it after a short time. The setup wizard works well and easily found my internet connection and devices attached to the system.
  • Pros: Ease of setup and use, performance
  • Cons: When drive fitted it runs all the time, could do with a "sleep" type function to spin drive down when not in use

Good range of services and easy interface

Amazon

  • Summary: This is a delightful product all round and easy to set up. My only reservation is that I added a 3TB HD and the device sees it as only 2TB. Maybe a future firmware upgrade will resolve the issue.
