Summary: I bought two of this router when it was on sale with a rebate. I bought it for $60 each after rebate. First time I used it, I tried them both and both of them has wifi issues (only for smartphones) when I have more than 5 smartphones connected to it, but the ethernet and wifi for laptops still...
Cons: Wifi disconnects when more than 5 smartphones connected
Summary: netgear tech support is non-existent, im sorry im not fluent in Bengali, Telugu or whatever Indian language they outsourced the support to. i speak english. in conclusion. dont waste your money or time on this router.
Pros: 3.5" bay is cool, ive never owned a router with nas built in. which is the main reason i bought it. unfortunately, it is probably the worst router ive ever owned.
Cons: wifi range is horrendous, both bands. the 2.4Ghz is bad and 5.0Ghz is darn near useless unless you are right next to it. neatgear firmware interface is slow and laggy. it will screw up your hard drive (if applicable) i wouldn't advise putting one in there. hard wired is ok at times after several ...
Summary: I bought this router because it had the perfect combination of things I'm looking for: hard drive bay, USB 3.0 ports (perfect for a media center PC storage), N900, decent range. I did NOT expect that, after 9 months, the WAN port would be deceased.
Pros: Built in NAS, high transfer speeds
Cons: WAN port failed after 9 months. Kind of important
Summary: I will NEVER gain own a netgear product. I strongly advise that you avoid buying anything Netgear. This router has been nothing but a huge problem since the get go. It is loud, runs very hot, and often requires hours of down time in order to "reset.
Cons: Failed within one year of ownership. Netgear refused to honor their own warranty and replace product.
Summary: Word of advice-STAY AWAY FROM NETGEAR!!! THEY DO NOT HONOR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT WARRANTIES!!! I purchased a brand new FACTORY SEALED Netgear Centria WNDR4700 from an online business. Out of the package I had problems with the power light staying amber and the unit not powering up so I contacted Netgear...
Crash's with any traffic load disconnects frequently
10 January 2015
Summary: Yet another device with great potential and specs, but low on delivery and quality. I was really excited to find this device os i could share files more easily, but I have found this to be unreliable at best. Any high traffic load will crash the storage or WiFi.
Summary: Netgear has the worst customer service ever. Not only that, the way they make YOU work, just to get some customer service is atrocious . They have no technical experience, and read off a script.
Cons: Does not support DD-WRT or Tomato firmware. Tech support at Netgear TOTALLY clueless. DOA.
Summary: Parental control on this unit is only done by using openDNS. I could not find how to limit internet access using MAC address on per hour basic such as on ASUS
Pros: Price. Parental control is harder to get around by my teenager. Blocking facebook is much easier in this unit.
Cons: This unit replaced my trusted Asus RT-N16. On this netgear unit, both 2.4 and 5GHZ wireless keep dropping every couple minutes. Both of these router are in the attic away from interfere such as phone, microwave. I now have to turn back on my old ASUS while waiting for Netgear solution ( which I d...
