  • Summary: I have my router in the basement on one side of the house. Three floors up to the opposite side we have a dead spot. The basement is 34 mps the dead spot is 1 mps. I set this up where I measured 34 mps mid way between the router and the dead room. Sitting next to the unit I connected and tested. My rate went down to 24 mps. The red light also suggested I get closer to the unit. If I touched the antenna with the computer the extender light would go green.

Junk, do not buy.

Kenny the tech guy, Staples
18 December 2014
  • Excerpt: Pure junk. Keeps dropping connection. Wifi thermostat keeps loosing connection. TV refused to connect. Fire TV connected but streaming stopped every 20 minutes. I am very technical and this happened on 2 units. No I am not more than 25 feet from the router and get a green light from the unit on router signal. On my 20 feet from TV. I moved the extender to different places with the same result. I tried the N700 extender and it was a little better but still junk.

Netgear is NOT a friendly device!

Frustrated Customer, Staples
7 November 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought this product to increase my router range, I already have a Netgear router, however when trying to establish connection the extender would not connect. It has been less than 6 months since my purchase and I've tried to return the product to Staples, in store, and was told you only have 14 days to return ANY technology product bought either in the store OR online.

Netgear wifi extender, Staples
30 October 2014
  • Excerpt: I wasn't able to set it up to work with Safari. The tech support was from India. I couldn't understand him and had to repeat his instructions. I spent over 30 minutes trying to make this work. Very unsatisfactory. When I bought the item at Staples the clerk said I just had to plug it in.. It was not easy. I had a friend try to help that was knowledgeable and he finally called the 800 number. I told the clerk I had a Linksys router to pair it with.

  • Summary: I was very disappointed to open the box to see it was the wrong item, it was a black square router type Netgear wifi range extender. And on top of it, it looked used, did not even work. I went to my local Walmart and returned it. First Walmart did not want to take it because it did not match the item on the receipt. (Duh!!) That is why I am returning it. Second Walmart took it with no problem.

Really difficult to set up

Helix, Staples
26 September 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought this because of the good reviews and the fact that I have a Netgear router. It did not work out of the box. It took me 2 full hours to try to set it up, including 1.5 hours on the phone with Netgear technical support. After all that time, they told me that it was a problem with the range extender and I needed to take it back and get a new one. This is after I had already waited a week to receive it from Staples.

Wasn't happy with product

Matt, Staples
11 September 2014
  • Excerpt: Pros: Easy to set up. Cons: weaker signal then the device I was extending and very loud whistling noise. It was easy enough to set up. You connect to the wireless network, maintain the same settings as your current wireless. However, I had stronger signal from my Verizon modem then I did sitting in the same room as this device. Also, the device makes a funny whistling sound. I have to admitt, Staples took the device back with no issue.
