Review update

Joshua K., Newegg
  • Summary: I have emailed the newegg@netgear.com twice, as they asked in response to my earlier review. This was two days ago and no one has emailed back or tried to get in contact. So I don't really see any proof that Netgear is standing behind this product. And with an average rating of 3 eggs now it goes to show this router model is a lemon.
  • Pros: Great when works
  • Cons: After about 4 months in the router is crashing every few hours. Will have to spend money to have replaced since the warranty was only 90 days. Used Netgear for all my previous routers but moving on to different brand after my experience with this router.

  • Pros: speed when it is up and running, multiple networks including guest

  • Excerpt: I could not get it to respond properly. The unit software stated that the modem cable was not connected after 2 different cables were tried. Cables worked fine on 2 other brand units. Same modem for all 3. Customer service was not helpfull at all. Returned unit.
  • Cons: Difficult To Set Up

one to avoid

rower, Costco

  • Summary: Based upon CNet's editor's review I purchased Netgear R6300 to replace a Linksys E4200. I have found wireless range reduced, more reboots required, and continual dropping of wireless clients. Unfortunately, problems became more pronounced after Costco's 90 day warranty. It will soon be replaced with a newer Linksys.
  • Pros: usb storage connection
  • Cons: poor range dropped wireless connections rebooting often required poor cost to value ratio

Poor Data Throughput

Deane, Staples
3 April 2014
  • Excerpt: This router was easy to set up. It replaced a wireless N Netgear router. But from the start its output on the N band was awful. My kids stated their phones got signal on the 2nd floor but data throughput was terrible. I tried resets of all kinds but could not get this router to put data out. I recently put up a wireless IP outdoor camera and it was so slow that I barely got it to rotate.

  • Summary: This router is great when it is working. But three times in the first year I got a message that it had lost its source coding/programming.
  • Pros: Good speed when working
  • Cons: Tends to lose coding

Disappointed

alanlarson, epinions.com
5 February 2014
  • Summary: Probably ok if all you do is surf the web. If you want more than that, you appear to be out of luck. User support is absolutely terrible.
  • Pros: Seems to be fast and handle high data rates.
  • Cons: Preset protocol parameters violate protocol specifications. No way to examine or reset these.
