Excerpt: I replaced an obsolete modem with this combination modem/router. I was told by the Staples employee, this model will do a better job covering my house. The increase coverage was negligible compared to the modem & separate router I was using. Adding insult to injury, I could no longer get my Netgear extender to work. Because I had purchased the extender last October, Netgear would not help with activating the extender unless I purchased a service plan.
Excerpt: I feel like this was a good buy. We needed one for our house anyway. We were looking for a mid grade router. There was some routers that were pretty cheap but not enough "gigabytes" so we chose a middle one. It was easy to set up, however when we had to register it online- put our name, address, wifi access information, etc. - it was not difficult, but more of a pain. We use all Apple products and we hooked it up into a MAC. So maybe that had something to do with it.
Excerpt: ...but terrible if you're not. You'll notice this especially when you're playing games like League of Legends, with the continual ping spikes and packet losses. Even if you were to be in the 5-bar range of the modem-router, you'll still ping spike a lot. Speaking of the range, the device can't even cover the range of a small apartment, so good luck with that The worse part is is that most all games that require connectivity will be affected by this.I still own the...
Summary: I'm living in small 2 bedroom apartment and I expected this modem/router gives Wifi coverage for all of my apartment. I set this modem/router in my living room and have a hard time getting Wifi in both bedroom. I wish I had spend some more money to get better product.
Excerpt: My modem was no longer working, so I bought this item because it claimed to be for a large home. I have a long house, so I get poor signal in the opposite end from where I set the modem and router. I believe the signal is stronger, but I still get weak signal and drop off during peak times. I was booted out of a final exam three or four times while studying online, so now I need to go back and buy a booster.
I still haven't found a Netgear that I've been thrilled with and while the modem/router combo reports good it needs more etherne

Summary: So far this modem/router only has two ethernet ports and its wi-fi is nothing better than an average router. The antennas are internal. It has the same 2 oz weight which after plugging anything into it, the modem/router wants to fall on the floor from the weight of the ethernet. Although I have checked the broadband speed, even with the ethernet connected to my ROKU, it constantly stopping and loading. And I have 50mbps How much speed do you need?
Short range: 5GHz unusable, 2.4GHz is satisfactory

Summary: 5GHz usable range is just 20 feet. And even at short distance with strong 5GHz signal there are some hiccups (webpages take a while to open and some ping times are long) on my Note 2 smartphone, thought there is no such problem on my macbook laptop. 2.4GHz range is better but still not satisfactory, drops significantly at 20 feet and one wall.
