garbage

Ariel S., Newegg
18 February 2014
  • Summary: Do you like hitting your head against a brickwall because it feels so good when you stop? Then this is the router for you...
  • Pros: It's got a nice color...
  • Cons: No CLI No Serial Console No Telnet or SSH Console. That would not be so bad if the web interface was usable. Here is an example 1) login 2) goto vlans wait.... 3) goto advanced 4) It hangs start from step 1 5) do that about 20 times.

good affordable stackable switch

leefuji, Amazon
23 January 2013
  • Summary: This my 3rd stacked unit along side the previous ones I've gotten. They all work together as intended. They stack very easily. they have tons of features for this price range for a 1Gig Stackable unit compared to others. I like the life time warranty on them. highly recommend for small businesses.

Great Value, a little trouble getting it to stack

Eric F., Newegg
8 May 2012
  • Summary: We have 3 of these switches connecting our HPC cluster. We originally had trouble getting stacking working and gave up. Recently we got it working. The key was to get high quality HDMI 1.3 or greater cables rated at 10.2 Gbps.
  • Pros: Many features including 10 Gb stacking links, Link Aggregation, and lots of Gb ports all at a great price
  • Cons: Web interface feels like it was written in interpreted basic running on a 4 MHz Z-80. Getting the stacking to work was a bit challenging. Firmware upgrade was a little tricky. Limited to 8 LAGs for the entire stack when the switch is stacked.

Could be better, Poor support from Netgear

Anonymous, Newegg
30 July 2011
  • Summary: Make sure you download the latest boot rom and firmware for the unit, so you get the latest stability fixes and newer web interface for the unit.
  • Pros: Stackable, VLANs, feature packed.
  • Cons: Fans fail quickly. This is a common issue with the netgear GS* switches, and one can read in user forums about it. I had 3 of my 4 fans fail within 6 months. If the switch can't stay cool, it's worth less, and can't process network traffic. I contacted their support staff, and requested to purcha...

Similar to Cisco but without the pricetag

Jeff N., Newegg
6 May 2011
  • Summary: I work for a company that solely uses Cisco switches. I purchase Netgear as I feel they are just as good as Cisco (I don't have the downtime requirements that my company use, but they are dang fine and definitely within my budget.)
  • Pros: Great switch! This thing is brutal. Fiber Optic is available (which I use) and I get the same transfer speeds as my work's Cisco switches. Another thing is the awesome warranty. You can't beat lifetime. I also love the stackablity of this switch - I personally use 3 of them, and it's nice to know...
  • Cons: Pretty noisy fans. I don't have my switches in a closet as I use them for personal use, but I had to buy a server rack with noise insulation to keep it down. The part I don't get is that the fans could be turned down as the heat generator from this thing is nothing and all outtake air has no heat...

Eggcelent!

Anonymous, Newegg
23 April 2011
  • Summary: I replaced my fans myself with aftermarket quiet ones. However it needs to be noted that the wiring on their fans is not standard. If you do want to replace the fans, you have to splice the three wires for each one, re-match your aftermarket fans (which are industry standard) to the Netgear scheme...
  • Pros: Many features. 4 SFP ports.
  • Cons: Fan's are noisy. They tend to die quickly.

Nice switch, very stable and capable

Jesse A., Newegg
19 October 2010
  • Summary: * Do update the firmware to the latest version before first configuration * A user created a loop by plugging in a port to a port on a downstream switch. While this switch was working hard as the resulting broadcast storm wreaked havoc, users on separate VLAN were not affected, and the switch stayed...
  • Pros: * Handles traffic well in a medium sized organization (~40 computers, , two Windows 2003 servers, two VLANs, mix of directly attached hosts and mix of Gigabit and 10/100BT downstream dumb switches) * VLAN configuration works well * VLAN + QoS works well * Gigabit backplane very roomy * Web gui lo...
  • Cons: * Fan is noisy (but in a closet, so doesn't matter for my purposes) * In-band help is a bit anemic at points

<3 Netgear GS748TS Switch

Layth I., Newegg
29 April 2009
  • Summary: I replaced my two (24port) old linksys switches that were giving me problems with this one and everything is awesome fast now. To the person who said he wishes that the lights would indicate what connection speed it is , yup green is for 1000 and amber is for 10/100 !!
  • Pros: Decent price, 48 port, Stacking capabality, Fast and nice managable features if used !! Good heavy duty built which you can tell from its weight unlike other switches that feel like plastic built.
  • Cons: Not really a con but noisy a bit. Shouldn't be a problem if it's in a server room, I mean it has 4 fans running so you would expect that it should be noisy. Haven't had any problems so far !!
