Nice

David H., Newegg
2 April 2014
  • Summary: This switch gave me the expansion I needed as my router is maxed out for ports.
  • Pros: I read the review before making my purchase, and I have had no issues so far with this switch. I has plenty of expansion capability for future growth. I have not put this switch to it's fullest ability, nor do I think right now. Only more time will tell me that.
  • Cons: I know there were complaints about the VLAN tagging. I have not employed that yet, so I cannot comment about the problems mentioned in earlier reviews

Very nice POE switch with good features

Lee H., Newegg
8 January 2014
  • Summary: Amazing switch for the price. I use features such as static mac tables, port protection, NTP servers, syslog, etc. They all actually work on this switch. I found a firmware bug, submitted a support ticket, anf they included the fix in the next firmware release. Now that's support. Very happy.
  • Pros: Provides POE power
  • Cons: None

Preconfigured VLANs 2 and 3 - Not Advertised

Daniel H., Newegg
12 August 2013
  • Summary: This is an engineering blunder on Netgears part. The manufacture should never assume they know what VLAN Id schema is best for the end user.
  • Pros: Price and almost the functionality for the price
  • Cons: This switch comes with two vlan's already set. Voice (2) and Video (3). Now if you are like me and have already assigned these vlan id's to other things on your network, you're not going to be happy, because these are hard set in the firmware and you cannot change them.

It works

Marcus S., Newegg
10 March 2013
  • Pros: Great value for 8 PoE ports. Will power 8 class 2 PoE devices at once. Bought this for my security camera network, each camera draws 4.6W, so it's a perfect fit and a great price for what you get. Most of the other switches in this price range only have 4 PoE ports.
  • Cons: Management software requires windows.

DO NOT BUY

Clint G., Newegg
10 December 2012
  • Summary: We bought 15 of these to place in small offices. Of the 15, 3 worked out of the box. The other 12 had some combination of dead ports. Lifetime warranty is great, but the cost in labor to swap them out, mail them in, chase the RMA paperwork, etc. is more than the switch is worth. Bad buy.
  • Pros: Looks good on paper.
  • Cons: Garbage reliability.

Good product

Stefan S., Newegg
25 October 2012
  • Summary: Port one was disabled when I logged on the switch first time. I re-enbaled it then it looks ok now. It is default maybe.
  • Pros: It works even if you do not set up the device. No need to update the firmware. It runs very well on my server network. I use Netgear for many years and never got any problems.
  • Cons: N/A.

Small Switch, Small Price, Small PoE Budget

LANguru, Bestbuy
24 October 2012
  • Summary: I use most of the GSM and GS series switches on a daily basis in a wide variety of installations.
  • Pros: The price/size/speed for a Netgear GS family switch is just right.
  • Cons: PoE budget is <45 W

Managed, 8 gigE w/PoE, 2 SFP uplinks, tons of features.

ditcheshurt, Ebay
25 September 2012
  • Summary: Worked right out of the box with PoE, expansive configuration options. Netgear really went above and beyond with packaging a managed eight port gigabit with PoE and two SFP switch into such a small package for such an affordable price.
