Summary: I use this with my Synology DS1512+ to do link aggregation. The transfer speeds on a wired connection are noticeably faster. The setup is essentially automatic. I also used this to hard wire my entertainment system (as opposed to going wireless). Going wired prevents choppiness when streaming movies from the Synology box and via Netflix. The small form factor is also fantastic.
Awesome Product. Honestly surprising you can get them at this price.

Summary: First of all, I have never had any metal-case Netgear switches fail. Ever. I and my businesses have had probably 100 all together and they all either still work or worked when taken out of service. This is my first GS108T, however. Excellent managed switch for the price. Does everything you'd expect (I just needed VLAN support) and, in my case, more. You can power the switch with PoE, which I think is probably implied or stated in the description but I did not see that.
Great for getting rid of Google Fiber Network Box (Hate that thing)

Summary: I bought this switch because I needed to get rid of my Google Fiber Network Box (that thing is horendous for configuration options.) I had read that you could be rid of that beast by putting a managed switch in line. Being a network engineer I understand managed switch better than the average consumer but with very detailed walkthroughs on configuring this switch for google fiber even a novice could set it up.
Excerpt: This is a great product. It's got a lot of "enterprise" features at a consumer/SOHO price. I've owned three of these for around two years, with no failures or burnouts so far. Key features include VLANs, settable port speeds, SNMP bandwidth and error tracking, PoE powered device as an option (you can power it with PoE). How are these features useful?Situation: Two tenants, one LAN, one internet connection.
Summary: Bought this to add ethernet ports for my Receiver, DVD player, and Video game system. I wanted to place these devices on two different VLAN's while not taking up alot of room. The web interface is easy to use for configuring the switch and updating the firmware. All of the devices are working fine. I stream music to the receiver and video to the DVD player with no issues.
Summary: I buy a lot of these things for around the office to split VLANs off to different cubes. The web configuration is the only way to configure these things which is kind of annoying but that's the name of the game with budget switches. I've probably purchased about 30 of these and I've only had one die.
