Excellent Small Business Switch

Jon M, Staples
15 January 2015
  • Excerpt: Great switch for the money, nice metal case, 1GBS connectivity and LIFETIME Warranty. Down side is that this is just a basic switch, no layer 2 or layer 3 controls or management. But most who buy this will not have a need for mgt features anyways.

GS108T

Michael J., Newegg
21 April 2014
  • Summary: They can be a pain to access initially but once you are there and set them up, they are great. Have only had to do a reboot once.
  • Pros: These switches just...work. I have a v1 unit as well as the newer unit and am getting ready to purchase my third. A great unit that works well. As all ways, Newegg rocks!
  • Cons: Three eggs cause: wish they cost less You do need to access them manually, the discovery software has never worked for me.

NetGear GS108T

Ronald S., Newegg
5 April 2014
  • Summary: Overall, you get whay you pay for: I don't mind a difficult, one time only setup for an excellent product worth three times its price.
  • Pros: Supports true managed switch layer 2 functionality. Configured for bonding and tested failover passes; as well as noticeable increaed throughput. Cheapest pro-grade managed switch out there. Good company.
  • Cons: Interface was kludgy and difficult to follow. Unit was not found on my network according to instructions. Had top seriously hack a PC to get it to show up. Once configured; however, runs quiet, cool, and very well. Tested redunancy successfully as well as bonding.

Good switch, NOT PoE

Jim K, Amazon
31 December 2013
  • Summary: If you are looking for a decent gigE switch then I can recommend this. For that reason I should have given it 5 stars for the price and performance. I took off a star because of my own idiocy! I didn't do the due diligence that I should have done. To me, when you read the description it implies that this switch provides PoE. It does NOT! The only thing having to do with PoE is the fact that it can be powered from an upstream PoE switch ...

  • Summary: Easy way to connect all your home network devices to the internet.Easy to operate and manage. Software is a little buggy so I don't recommend installing it. For the most part you don't need to manage your home network that closely.

  • Summary: Not yet installed, so this review is subjective at the moment. When I get further along with them, I'll update this review, but for now, the advertised feature set is what I needed for this specific project.

Netgear might be improving!

Anonymous, Newegg
28 May 2013
  • Summary: I've had 2 of Netgear's older 5 port gigabit non-managed switches and both died just after their year warranty. Because of that I stayed away from Netgear, but I recently needed a different brand SNMP switch for software testing and I took a chance on this. I'm happy to say it's been working just fine.
  • Pros: Smallest gigabit switch I could find with full management. Real true managed SNMP v1 thru v3 (not just RMON), web access, speedy, doesn't get too warm, nice lights I guess. :) Lifetime warranty? (more below) No problems so far!
  • Cons: As others have said, Netgear likes to make these little metal boxes that emulate larger 24 switches. They really should redesign it into a desktop-style switch so the plugs are in the back and the lights are in the front. That's something I really like about the 3Com 3CDSG8 (out of production), which I own 4 of. While it doesn't get any warmer than my 3Com 3CDSG8, I do which it stayed cooler.

Nice Product

ChrisH, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: This switch has all the options I need to monitor and manage my network. Initial setup was easy and configuration was what I would expect for a switch with so many options. Had to exchange the first switch they sent me because the heatsink had fallen off in shipping. It's not supposed to rattle when you get it.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use
