Be Aware of what the POE port Represents on this Switch
21 June 2015
Summary: Interesting switch, and very misleading. Most people associate a yellow port providing Power Over Ethernet (POE), and this is actually a normal and USUALLY a valid assumption. It is not the case with the GS108T GB Smart Switch.
Summary: Very disappointed with the port "mirroring" behavior of vlan untagged members. It’s more like a one way window than a mirror (see cons). The mirroring behavior of vlan untagged members is in contradiction with the Software Administration Manual which states the following in the Multiple Port...
Pros: 1) Works out of the box (without needing any custom configuration) 2) Quiet (no fans) 3) Over 2 years of service
Cons: 1) Not desktop friendly (network ports/connections are in front). To be desktop friendly ports/connections should be in rear and status on front bezel. 2) Web configuration is a little slow to load. Some link based images are small and difficult to click on. For instance arrows in the VLAN Member...
Summary: I bought this to use with my Synology DS1812+ so I could set up link aggregation (802.3ad) which this switch supports. Spent way too much time trying to get it to work with that. Thought I'd save some money buying this unit but ended up buying a HP ProCurve 1810-8 instead (which I should have done...
Summary: I bought this switch for one reason. I wanted to create a bandwidth limited wireless network for my bandwidth hog of a son. It turns out that the nice, simple ingress and egress port rate limiting in the GS108T-V1 has been removed from the GS108T-V2, which is what I received.
Pros: This is an inexpensive feature rich switch. I found the features work well once I figured out what they do. I wanted to learn about VLANs and other things so I bought this. It allowed me to experiment. Its silent.
Cons: Switch will lockup once every 6 months or so. It has some auto-negotiation issues. They may be patched by now. It killed my throughput from 30Mbps down to 20Mbps on a 100Mb to 1Gb endpoints. Don't know why, but I'm replacing it for this issue.
Summary: I'm a network engineer used to dealing with datacenter class equipment, so maybe my expectations are skewed... The switch itself works ok. But this is supposed to be a "managed" switch with SNMP support. I expected to be able to graph the traffic of my switch ports.
Netgear GS108Tv2 8 Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Switch
7 January 2013
Summary: Grundsätzlich funktioniert der Switch.
