Summary: I will say that I'm most-comfortable working with enterprise-grade hardware, which this obviously, is not. I purchased this to segment my home network into a private network for my home business devices and an easier-to-access via WAP for the rest of the family. After reading the manual about this device, I struggled to get some ports to trunk, even though the interface indicated that they were configured to do so.
Summary: Absolutely fixed my problem with AT&T Uverse. Uverse was killing my home network by flooding my switches when I moved the set-top boxes around my home to new locations. I originally had the set-top boxes, except for one, plugged directly into the Residential Gateway so, while i did notice some flooding, i didn't have major problems.
Summary: Bought this to replace a Linksys that MASY have been causing feedback problems. CAnnot tell you if or why, but since I installed it, the problems of a lost internet connection ahve disappeared.
Summary: Had to pick a switch as our old vpn firewall had to be replaced and new one from out tech support needed a switch to handle more work stations. Being the wana be geek, when i got it i put in place without calling support. Literally plug everything in and it worked. Understand I am old enough to have gone to computer camp in 1975 (learned fortran & basic) but more of a user than tech. This stuff is so simple.
This thing supports port based vlans and 802.1q tags

Summary: I used this to turn my 2 port Ethernet router (Lan side, Wan side) into 4 VLANs/Subnets. Wifi, DMZ (OLD PC for remote desktop access) , VOIP (Ooma IP phone), LAN (desktop PCs). This thing has been rock solid and isolates my network.
Summary: I now have two of the 8 port and one 16 port for my home. These managed plus switches are fantastic. I have noticed no lag, well after changing the QoS on the ports to the proper level. Being able to check the integrity of the cables, monitor bandwidth, set the QoS, setup a VLAN is fantastic and just enough "management" for my home needs. Firmware updates were without issue.
