Summary: With the durable metal case and the lifetime warranty I am convinced I will be happy with this Netgear switch. Until Terabit Ethernet comes out that is - then I'll have to upgrade.
Pros: Plug it in, connect it to the network and it's doing its job. It is really that simple. Within five seconds of being connected it was serving five 100Mb and 1000Mb devices with no configuration needed. The fact it can wall-mount (hardware included) or sit flat on a table is a bonus. And the lifet...
Cons: Really nothing I didn't like at all. If I had to be REALLY picky I prefer the cables in the back and just have the lights blinking up front.
Summary: As a home switch, I don't get the power cable being on one side, and the Ethernet ports on the other. I imagine a user who wants to see the cat-5 and lights will not care if there's another cable for power in the back.
Pros: Automatically works with switch-to-router connections Plug-and-play easy (can) support gigabit Ethernet on cat5 (Mileage will vary, of course, depending on length and quality of cable) Price-for-function is GOOD even at retail price for home use.
Cons: As with any power inverting plug, the plug may or may not get in the way of other power sockets. For reference, this plug wants to go left or right out of the wall. Adjust that to your UPS/Power strip as necessary
Summary: Worth every penny. My small network was based off a wireless router that just couldn't cut it bandwidth wise being an older 10/100 product. 10 was more like it between hard wired computers. This cured THAT problem big time. Large file transfers are now in the 100 to 160 MBPS range.
Pros: Once you set it up, you can forget about it. Does what it's supposed to seamlessly.
Cons: I would have put the link LED's on the other side.
Summary: It's a simple switch, the only requirements I have are that it doesn't lock up constantly. This unit has not doe so yet, and the last one I had lasted about 6 years before it had at done it once.
Pros: This switch is rock solid, I have never had any problems with it. I have never had to reset it because it locked up. The physical construction is solid and won't break easily of something falls on it.
Summary: The product works without a glitch. I use it to connect my printer and home theater components to LAN. The rebate turns out to be a scam that will cancel out the warranty altogether. They require you to send in the original UPC label.
