Excerpt: My home network wasn't,t performing as well as I would have liked. So I bought this switch, ran all my lines to it and then plugged it into the router. What a difference. All of my internal traffic is much faster (printer, network disk, other machines etc) And even internet access improved some I expect because the router was no longer loaded by intra net service.
Excerpt: I installed this switch after my wire-less router allowing me to have an additional 7 connecting points. this allowed me to run wire to every room in the house. with the switch installed the speed is the same across the entire network, and the unused ports remain inactive when not in use.
Summary: Usually products like this claim that the LEDs will tell you the speed of the connection. This is the first one that I can tell easily at what speed each connection is operating. Small and easy to connect to.
Excerpt: With everybody trying to have everything connected wirelessly, they might forget that anything over wire always beats anything over radio - reliability is solid over wire, nothing interferes with it, and you can see exactly what is connected to what. Netgear is still the leader in networking technology, and this 8 port switch is a fine example.
Pros: Easily Expanded, Easy To Set Up, Fast, Reliable, Small
Excerpt: I've used these switches to move computers away from our wireless network to a wired connection, due to possible security issues. They are easy to configure, and seem to be working well so far. The only problem I've had (with the 5 port switch version) is incompatibility with HP Wireless Printers (neither NetGear or HP could resolve the issue).
