GS105E - For home network running Windows - Not for businesses)
R. Del Russo, Amazon
12 December 2013
Summary: This is in response to the NETGEAR 5-PORT (GS105E) (Edit/update (12/12/2013): Spelling errors) Does the job once it's setup. However, NETGEAR ships this switch with software that only runs on Windows and without a static IP address.
Summary: if you just want a switch there are cheaper ones that will do fine. The set-up of this switch is awful...in retrospect I would never buy this product again. I am very tech savy and the steps to acess the conifg utility are a pain.
Summary: I had high hopes for this switch as I bought two of them at the same time to replace my aging fast ethernet switches. Unfortunately I waited to install them and was way past any return date when I found out they're both faulty with the exact same issues.
Pros: It's small
Fast when it works
Cons: Random disconnects
Seems to block certain traffic at which point it needs a reboot.
I still have one of them installed and it's located between my cisco modem/router (shaw) and my netgear router (set up as access point). When first plugged in it works fine but then I notice random error messages ...
