GS105E - For home network running Windows - Not for businesses)

Summary: This is in response to the NETGEAR 5-PORT (GS105E) (Edit/update (12/12/2013): Spelling errors) Does the job once it's setup. However, NETGEAR ships this switch with software that only runs on Windows and without a static IP address. The switch is shipped such that it is expecting to receive its IP from an existing DHCP server. NETGEAR ==> If you're going to sell *managed* network devices, please do not make assumptions about how or where the product is going to be used.
It works, sort of, but is still a waste of your money

Summary: (Disclaimer: I'm already bitter about Netgear, because I owned a WGT624 wireless router, and the thing would literally die and need to be reset every two weeks. But, I was told, Netgear's ProSafe products are better, they're more professional-grade, and they just work. Well, ha.) I bought this GS105E "unmanaged plus" switch a month ago. Summary: if you just want a switch there are cheaper ones that will do fine. The set-up of this switch is awful...in retrospect I would never buy this product again. I am very tech savy and the steps to acess the conifg utility are a pain. In order to get to the other functions of this product you need to into your router and change the ip addy so the switch will talk with your router(btw I have a netgear wndr3700)you would think a product made by the same company would work...
Summary: I had high hopes for this switch as I bought two of them at the same time to replace my aging fast ethernet switches. Unfortunately I waited to install them and was way past any return date when I found out they're both faulty with the exact same issues.
Pros: It's small
Fast when it works
Cons: Random disconnects
Seems to block certain traffic at which point it needs a reboot.
I still have one of them installed and it's located between my cisco modem/router (shaw) and my netgear router (set up as access point). When first plugged in it works fine but then I notice random error messages from my server loosing internet connection for 30 sec or so and later I can't reach my routers web interface from the lan. If I power cycle the switch everything goes back to ...
