GS105E - For home network running Windows - Not for businesses)
R. Del Russo, Amazon
12 December 2013
Summary: This is in response to the NETGEAR 5-PORT (GS105E) (Edit/update (12/12/2013): Spelling errors) Does the job once it's setup. However, NETGEAR ships this switch with software that only runs on Windows and without a static IP address. The switch is shipped such that it is expecting to receive its IP from an existing DHCP server. NETGEAR ==> If you're going to sell *managed* network devices, please do not make assumptions about how or where the product is going to be used.
Summary: if you just want a switch there are cheaper ones that will do fine. The set-up of this switch is awful...in retrospect I would never buy this product again. I am very tech savy and the steps to acess the conifg utility are a pain. In order to get to the other functions of this product you need to into your router and change the ip addy so the switch will talk with your router(btw I have a netgear wndr3700)you would think a product made by the same company would work...
