Fast FW-Router when it works....

B. Seehafer, Amazon
  • Summary: Same as others have said before. Speedy firewall, and good lan to wan speeds but only when it works. Out of the box with the default firmware it worked ok. Upgraded the firmware and wow what a difference. Speedy and I'm finally getting the full advantage of a 60Mbs internet connection.

Makes a great door stop

Carolyn S Williams, Amazon
24 May 2015
  • Summary: I bought this device over a year ago. About a month later the WAN connection stopped working. At first, the connection LED would remain on, but the status showed WAN disconnected. After a while of debugging and disconnecting and reconnecting the cable, the LED would no longer come on.

Locks up after 5 mins

A. Shiekh, Amazon
16 April 2015
  • Summary: I have the older slower FVS318Gv1 (works well on firmware 3.1.1-18), an FVS318N and this FVS318Gv2; the later 2 (on firmware 4.3.2-7) work for about 5 mins after a reboot, then lock up, so are presently useless to me.

This is the worst router I've ever worked with

Chris T., Amazon
13 December 2014
  • Summary: This is the worst router I've ever worked with. Netgear customer service is very helpful and is the reason for the 1 star. If you buy this router, be prepared to have to RMA at least once.

Robert Goldschmidt "traveler", Amazon

  • Summary: By way of background before I start the review, know that I have owned Netgear gear for many years. Netgear hubs, Netgear switches, Netgear print servers, and Netgear router-firewalls.

Buyer beware! Gets hot, stops working, flakey.

Steve in Seattle, Amazon
16 September 2014
  • Summary: Just bought this to create a little LAN in a lab that needs basic DHCP, with access to the corporate LAN for web/email on the clients. The quick start leaflet in the box contained numerous errors including the IP address needed to access the router itself.

!!!!! Limited to only 24mbits on WAN and VPN on Mac is useless !!!!

asterix, Amazon
30 June 2014
  • Summary: This is not clearly marked on the packaging anywhere so take note. The WAN port will only support up to 24Mbps. You buy a gigabit router, you figure that it can at least keep up with current cable speeds. Not so with Netgear products. Not only that but it actually only does 16Mbps on the WAN port.
