Locks up after 5 mins

A. Shiekh, Amazon
  • Summary: I have the older slower FVS318Gv1 (works well on firmware 3.1.1-18), an FVS318N and this FVS318Gv2; the later 2 (on firmware 4.3.2-7) work for about 5 mins after a reboot, then lock up, so are presently useless to me.

This is the worst router I've ever worked with

Chris T., Amazon
13 December 2014
  • Summary: This is the worst router I've ever worked with. Netgear customer service is very helpful and is the reason for the 1 star. If you buy this router, be prepared to have to RMA at least once.

The Netgear FVS318G is just terrible. Avoid.

Robert Goldschmidt "traveler", Amazon
14 November 2014
  • Summary: By way of background before I start the review, know that I have owned Netgear gear for many years. Netgear hubs, Netgear switches, Netgear print servers, and Netgear router-firewalls.

Buyer beware! Gets hot, stops working, flakey.

Steve in Seattle, Amazon
16 September 2014
  • Summary: Just bought this to create a little LAN in a lab that needs basic DHCP, with access to the corporate LAN for web/email on the clients. The quick start leaflet in the box contained numerous errors including the IP address needed to access the router itself.

!!!!! Limited to only 24mbits on WAN and VPN on Mac is useless !!!!

asterix, Amazon
30 June 2014
  • Summary: This is not clearly marked on the packaging anywhere so take note. The WAN port will only support up to 24Mbps. You buy a gigabit router, you figure that it can at least keep up with current cable speeds. Not so with Netgear products. Not only that but it actually only does 16Mbps on the WAN port.

Junk

LR, Amazon
8 May 2014
  • Summary: Complete junk. If only there was a setting to "remove everyone's stars". 1. The configuration of this thing is complete and utter nonsense. Take what you know about configurations, then reverse all your knowledge, then invent a stupid way to do it. Speaking specifically about their VPN connections.

Don't waste your money

steve, Amazon
7 March 2014
  • Summary: Besides the fact that Netgear's support services is well below par, I wasted 2 months trying to get the VPN to function properly when I was finally informed it does not have the capability to support internet faster than 20mbps.
