Summary: I bought one of these from Frys in 2005, tried to use it, was never able to get it to run and can't get it to run to this day. Specs are feature packed and price was very competitive at the time.
Summary: The Netgear FVS318v3 may seem like a great option for users with the need for many ports, but beware! The FVS318v3 loses connectivity TOO OFTEN. Every few minutes, it seems like, I must reset the router (switch off, switch on) to get it working again.
Summary: This thing will slow down your connection speed, browsing speed, everything. The processor is to slow. Not even worth the $89. Don't waste your money. I have purchased and used MANY routers/firewalls. This has to be the worst on thus far.
Summary: This was a decent unit when it was new. I used one for years but when Comcast got above 7 meg (now 22) this could not perform above 7. Don't buy if you have more than 7 meg as this will be the weak link in your chain.
Summary: I have version 3 of this router, it is horrendously slow: downloading from the internet on my linksys router goes at about 1.2 Mb/s, with this one, it's more like 200 kb/s. Transferring files from computer to computer goes at 1 Mb/s - slower than downloading from the internet with my other router!
Summary: With Netgear Prosafe VPN Firewall 8 FVS318 I get about 6 Mb/s download, using my computers firewall I get about 17 Mb/s download. Using ShieldsUP! as a test both pass. The FVS318 is only 10/100 that may be the problem or it may just be slow. I'm not going to use the FVS318.
Be careful there is a newer model v3 with better cpu!

Summary: Be careful! Netgear is not telling people that there are 3 versions of the FVS318 (v1, v2 and v3)! Version 3 has a better CPU and uses a different firmware (v3.0). I feel cheated! Because Netgear sells all the older FVS318 as though they are all the same! Not the newest v3 model!
