Summary: I recently bought this firewall based on the info i got from Amazon's website. (FVS318v3) People if your current bandwidth exceeds 7Mbs please do not buy this product. This firewall's CPU cannot handle anything faster then 7Mbs!!!!
Summary: My experience with tech support has been the worst BY FAR in 20 years of computing. The 2 techs i dealt with were remarkably incompetent, responding after days at a time with irrelevant cut and paste instructions.
Summary: I purchased a FVS 318 on March 2004. FVS 318's administrative interface allowed me to change HTTP port forwarded traffic from web server `A' to web server `B'. However, FVS 318 never implemented these changes I made within the administrative port forwarding interface.
Summary: Had this for less than fifteen minutes and it was up and running with minimal effort. It gives you strong protection capability, with lots of options to configure and change as to whatever you desire.
Summary: I hate to buy something and then learn you need to jump through hoops to install it and have it work right. I don't want to spend two months - as I did with another brand, finally to give up and buy a netgear. I bought a cheaper version of netgear's router and loved it.
Summary: I've now used both a version 1 and version 3 of the FVS318 router and have come to realize that it has some serious problems. Each version has different, but real problems with handle connects and disconnects.
Summary: If you want a good router that is easy to configure, this is a good purchase. If you are looking for a VPN router, by a SonicWall. I wish I had. I have 5 yrs exp as a intermidate network tech and 11 yrs as a software engineer.
Summary: I have installed 2 of these units in two very similar applications. The first one was a disaster. Firmware v. 1.0 was unstable and kept disconnecting us. Although firmware 1.2 was available it could not be loaded on the originally shipped unit or on its first replacement.
