Advanced VPN router, but difficult to setup

Overstock
26 November 2006
  • Summary: I've used a number of routers from the FVS series. All of them are easy to setup for basic firewall/router use, but are always very difficult to configure for client VPN connections. The documentation is not clear, but the product is solid. The routers typically do not include the Netgear VPN client software, which was an additional purchase for me. The Cisco VPN client may also be used with some configurations.

Worst Router Ever

Jamie Dainton, Amazon
26 October 2011
  • Summary: I bought this for our office to hook up to a 15Mb leased line and to it's credit it was easy to configure and appeared functional. However, the faults are severe and are still present with the latest firmware. 1) Throughput is poor even without VPN being used. 2) The device is unreliable and requires daily or twice daily reboots.

Almost a good piece of kit

  • Summary: For the average wired office or home network this is a good piece of kit. It works well with almost all of the devices on my network. My ISP does DHCP if the device connected to the cable modem has the right MAC address. Fortunately you can set the MAC address of the FSV318. Where it falls down is the DMZ.
