So far so Good

Craig S., Newegg
9 December 2013
  • Summary: At time of writing I've had this for a month, no issues so far. With Netgear switches I find that it's best to update to the latest firmware before installing in a production environment.
  • Pros: Price, compatible with the fiber module from another 24 port Netgear switch we have on site.
  • Cons: None

Bad Ports

Ronn R., Newegg
10 May 2013
  • Pros: Works great on good ports.
  • Cons: My company has four of these that we purchased new about six months ago. I don't think that 100% of the ports work on any of them. We had to replace one under warranty due to the entire middle section of 16 ports not functioning out of the box. There are a few bad ports scattered about on the oth...

Excellent unmanaged switch

Andres M., Newegg
5 January 2013
  • Summary: keep a copy and or register the unit in case you need warranty service, but they are very tough and work very well... I have more than 100 units of the 16 and 24 ports working for more than 7 years. the 48 ports with the gigabit speed I have been using for about 1 year and don’t expect any problems
  • Pros: I have purchased several 48 port Netgear switches from different vendors. And hundreds of 16 and 24 ports of the same type of switch… in 7 years of using this brand we had to replaced 3 of them and 2 were because the ‘user” physically damaged them… All of these switches are in relatively harsh en...

Worked well for years

John S., Newegg
7 August 2012
  • Summary: As long as it works this is a great unit. The lifetime warranty so far has turned out to be a joke. I can't get anyone to even talk to me. No one answers the online support cases and no one answers the phones.
  • Pros: It worked very well for several years.
  • Cons: I've been trying for over a week to get technical support to issue an RMA. So far nothing. The online submission was ignored and I've been on hold on more than one occasion for over an hour with no one ever answering.

Great when it works - give up after 3 years

Quang B., Newegg
10 April 2012
  • Summary: I have this one setup in a very busy medical office. Today this switch suddenly give up on me. I have a spare switch 24 ports which save me else the office have to be down for a few hours which is not an option. All IT guy out there, get extra switch for client which can save you.
  • Pros: Great price - work great when all is fine
  • Cons: Too early to give up after 3 years. Power surge protected.

Good when it works.

Daniel B., Newegg
4 May 2011
  • Summary: Replacement switch has been solid so far. We'll see how it holds up over the long run.
  • Pros: Cheap and easy to configure. High port density in 1U.
  • Cons: First unit had dead ports and could not save settings across reboot. Netgear replaced it, but we still had to pay shipping to Netgear for the RMA.

Ports failed after less than one day

Charles F., Newegg
27 April 2011
  • Summary: Look at the dates of the positive reviews.. they all are from 2007 - 2008. Now look at the dates of the reviews where ports failed ... 2010 and later. Netgear must have decided that this product doesn't deserve quality control any more and the customers pay the price.
  • Pros: The switched worked pretty well during the short period of time that it was fully operational. The web interface is basic, but gets the job done. The feature set is actually pretty good for a small office network that doesn't require stacked switches. You can hang a file server off of one of the ...
  • Cons: After less than a one day of use at least four ports died in the switch. The switch is properly mounted in a rack with plenty of air-space on both sides of the switch, but it still gets pretty warm to the touch. We only have 27 ports populated, and the network at the office is not heavily utilize...
