the first unit died after a year of use, the second is working after 4 years

  • Summary: the first unit purchased 2002 (replace old Linky), but it died about 1 year later (getting too hot), replaced by SMC, but realplayer never worked with it then I purchase the second unit in 2004, and worried about same problem, but it turns out it doesn't fail me very decent firewall and port fwd'ing policy (setup for slingbox, LocFree, and FTP) site blocking works as it's supposed used LTP port till I got HP all-in-one 5180 (has networking support), I have no problem to...

Has worked well for me for 3 years

  • Summary: This product works as it should. I run a linux server off of my cable modem. Over the last few years I've tried using multiple consumer priced wireless routers, but they all (3 of them!) had lock-up issues or slowness. Each time I ended up going back to my FR114P for routing. I now have a complete "Netgear blue box" solution- the FR114P wired router with the WG102 wireless access point connected to it. I also have a Netgear GS108 gigabit switch.

Good featureset, but reliability and performance concerns.

  • Summary: I've owned two of these routers now -- my first one died after about a year and I replaced it with the same model because I was fairly happy with it and it worked. Configuration is easy and yet powerful. Pretty much all of the features I could want come built-in and work (make sure you get the latest firmware from the netgear site!) In general the router has Just Worked for me -- I configured it, and left it alone.

A pleasure to use for 2 years now, but it's getting old

  • Summary: It runs well right out of the box, has a friendly online menu and is fairly speedy. Matter of fact, when a family member got a laptop I replaced it with a Netgear WGT624SC wireless router, but the slowdown in throughput was so severe that I put the FR114P back on as the router and used the wireless box downstream as an access point instead. I have never had to reboot it except for when NG issues a firmware update.

Great functionality, but thankfully a 3-year warranty

  • Summary: I am a small office user who purchased the FR114P after much research, and was concerned about some of the negative reviews I'd read here and elsewhere. I have been very impressed with this product. Set up could not have been easier, and I am not very experienced at installing hardware. I liked the fact that as a less experienced user, the default settings did all the work and I did not have much to program in at the outset.
