Linksys WRT610N

The Linksys WRT610N is a simultaneous dual-N band wireless router that operates on the Draft 802.11n, 802.11a/g/b, 802.3/u/ab standards and supports connectivity ports like Ethernet, Internet and USB. It has three internal antennas per each 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz radio band, and supports UPnP. It features WEP, WPA and WPA2 security and has up to 128-bit encryption security key-bits.

Features

The Linksys WRT610N is a dual-N band wireless router that is optimized for media such as music, movies and gaming. The simultaneous Dual-N band wireless router features two bands of Wireless-N. Both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands are designed to work separately and simultaneously, allowing users to customize their own configuration, allocating one band width for surfing the Internet, email and print while keeping another for time sensitive traffic like music, gaming and high-definition video. The built-in Media Optimized Networking technology on the Linksys WRT610N provides priority to time-sensitive traffic. The wireless router also features Wireless-N’s Multiple in, Multiple Out MIMO technology which uses the signal reflections that confuse ordinary wireless technologies to boost range and reduce dead spots, and features ultra-wide bandwidth that minimizes interference from nearby wireless devices. Other features on the Linksys WRT610N are four integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports that lets users connect networked storage, computers, and other devices directly to the network, storage link which provides USB connectivity for hard drives and memory stick and wireless security and SPI firewall protection that safeguard home network and computers from most Internet attacks. The Linksys WRT610N has a minimum system requirement of Internet Explorer 6.0 , Safari 3.1 or Firefox 1.0 or higher for browser-based configuration, CD-ROM drive, wired or wireless network adapter with TCP/IP Protocol, LELA software and Setup Wizard require up-to-date Windows XP, Vista, or Vista 64-bit Edition, Setup Wizard under Mac OS X 10.4 or higher and Linksys Dual-Band Wireless-N adapters (recommended).

It was nice getting a chance to play with a high-end Linksys router and see what they've been up to over the past few years.  The WRT610N is currently the fastest consumer oriented router from Linksys and it is indeed just that - fast.  The wireless 802.11n performance is blistering fast as is the mixed mode 802.11g.  I was able to easily connect to either SSID/band and it is interesting to be able to set different encryption to both.  Overall, connectivity and ease... Wireless routers with internal antennas have a much tidier appearance, and the Linksys WRT610N combines this with an unusually sleek outline. Instead of the usual plugpack, the WRT610N comes with an inline power pack with a short mains lead - and the review sample had a US mains plug! We’ll put that down to an oversight. A wizard-style setup utility is provided for Windows and Mac OS X (the Mac version politely creates a new location in the Network system preference),... Read more

Nothing but problems from the minute I took it out of the box. Not one of my computers could maintain a connection. When I spoke to Linksys they could not resolve the issue. They suggested I replace the router. I originially bought here but ran to a local store to get a second one. SAME ISSUE. now I have to return two of these pieces of junk. Linksys tried to have me shut down on of the dual bands and I asked why I would do that since that is why I replaced my original... Read more or see product

The installation s/w hung on three different laptops (?!) and I had to configure the device manually. The 2.4GHz performance is nearly equivalent to my old Linksys WRT54G. The 5GHz performance (range/speed) is not what I expected. Read more

This router is quite like a dream for all its reliability and functionality. Mind you, this is not for the casual user or someone who does not know wireless set up very well, however it is easier than one would think. Definitely use the manual set-up over the "PIN" set-up so you know it's done right. This router is replacing a previously decent Linksys model WRT310N, which I will give to someone needing a more casual network that is at least reliable. If you want a rock... Read more

I whish they would have an option for a FTP / Web server which would be only icing on the cake for this router. Then I wouldn't have to keep a computer running 24/7 to keep my website up. Read more
