Excerpt: I purchased this because my previous router which was the Linksys wrt54gs after 8 years was having a hard time staying connected and the strength was not very good. Since I also use it for streaming Netflix I decided to upgrade and wanted to purchase a Linksys because the set up on my previous one was so simple and fast. The set up for this one was not as easy. I was setting it up with my laptop and it would not go past 25% set up.
Excerpt: Was very easy to install, set up and connect to the wireless in my house. However not sure 100% this is the best product. I have only owned it about 3 weeks and it does seem to drop the wireless signal in our house periodically and I have to run a fix scan on the internet to get it reconnected each time. But it could also be other issues as well not sure yet still have to investigate and no it's not distance my house is 2100 sq ft.
Summary: search the linksys/cisco forums for version 220.127.116.11047 http://www.mediafire.com/?oahard1f1fxc93o forum page very bottom http://community.linksys.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/EA4500-Disable-Cisco-Connect-Cloud/td-p/536032/page/5?
Pros: Downgrade if you prefer you're privacy, and the standard interface!
Cons: current firmware shipping with the cisco connect 18.104.22.168204
Summary: the forced update was not enabled on my device! don't know if that will be different for others or not!?! not sure what linksys is thinking with their new tactics but I can see this pushing away more and more customers. bring back routers that support third party firmware. don't charge for apps that should be part of the UI to begin with. just really disappointing. sorry taking two eggs just for greed!
Pros: Range is excellent! setup up is very easy! this router setup is good for and entry level router aimed at novice users! not the high end ones. it's a waste crippling a high end router like this! at least price wise anyway. this router uses a marvel chipset. which prevents alot of third party firmware and/or mods. otherwise this router is solid. great range, and solid signal. plays well with other devices. range covers most the area around the house on my mom's farm whe...
Cons: shouldn't have to pay for apps, especially given the limited config interface. crippled the interface just to sell those features in add on apps. not cool!
