Pros: Looks to be a great router. Nice design, fast speeds, but can't use it, since it's not DD-WRT or Tomato compatible. ONLY V1 and V2 are custom firmware ready.
Cons: As you've read above, V3 does not support DD-WRT, nor Tomato. The title of this product is misleading. If Linksys would build Wireless Repeater functionality into their basic firmware, this wouldn't be an issue.
Excerpt: instead of getting a extender to my Belkin I had, it was suggested to get a new router, my house is less than 75ft long and devices at end of house don't see the connection - no better off than my original router that was 15 yrs old!!
Cons: terrible customer services, to get any help; they will charge you for 60 buck for the basic service and 150 for the "premium". I wanted to support a Canadian company but i guess not this one any more.
Excerpt: I have a common 2 story home. The router sends a poor signal upstairs. Netflix looses signal making it frustrating to watch a movie. I am presently looking in to purchasing an extender to extend the coverage. However, the router works well on the main floor.
Excerpt: I bought this hoping to speed things up, however it is absolutely no faster than my old blue Linksys Wireless-G 2.4Ghz router with 2 "antennas" that I've had for over a decade. In fact sometimes it's even slower because it seems to hesitate a lot. My old one never hesitated, just consistent on it's slow speed. YES, it was very easy to install but I am not impressed with the speed and feel I wasted money. Linksys also lured me with a free "2 day shipping" upgrade.
Summary: Selecting 'cancel' resulted repeatedly in a lost connection to the router, requiring a reset and reboot to get it back - only to arrive at the same page again.
Pros: RIP enabled ..handy if you have more than one of these deployed. (But I have no idea how well it plays with other models/manufacturers)
Cons: Yet another headache from Linksys. As many people have reported, the Cisco connect software did not detect that the router was connected. Forcing a reset and logging in direct (192.168.1.1) without an ISP connection only brought up an enigmatic "Firmware Update" page in the browser that is not part of the Web interface.
Generally okay but problems with Parental Controls
A reviewer from Greensboro, NC, Linksys
9 September 2013
Excerpt: The Linksys E2500 Wireless Router I purchased has generally functioned okay except for the Parental Controls, which I keep having to reset because the settings I put in place just don't stick. I give this device 2 stars for this reason and for the abysmally bad and utterly unhelpful service I received from tech support (via chat) when I sought a solution to the problem. So far not too impressed with Linksys.
Excerpt: i havent even tried to use this yet but i must say that the setup has left me confused and having to talk to two people to try to help me. i would give it a better rating but i havent been able to use it yet so when and if i can i will definatly give you my review.
