Faulty device, bad range

Albert, Amazon
15 March 2014
  • Summary: I may have received one of the bad ones but this router is giving me bad wifi range and keeps dropping constantly. I checked other wifi devices around me to see what range they were in to avoid any conflicts and set a manual channel but still had issues. Wired connections seem to work fine for now but being that I have had so much trouble with the wireless it may end up failing completely soon. Bad purchase for me... wouldn't recommend to anyone else.

Shipped Quick but Slow Speeds

Jeremy S., Newegg
8 March 2013
  • Pros: Easy to setup device. Signal coverage for my home is just OK..On par with my 3 year Refurbished Netgear router.
  • Cons: No matter what setting I tried and after a firmware update I can not get a connection rate higher that 70mbps to my 3 computers..all have wireless adapter from different companies. On 2 machines the WiFi adapters are rated at 150mbps and the 3rd PC at 300mbps. I get the full rates on each computer when connected to my 3 year old Netgear. Video from my networked HDD now buffers thru the Linksys but plays smooth on the Netgear. Next is to contact Linksys for support I g...

the unit could be great but there are issues

Matt "disappearingone", Amazon
26 April 2012
  • Summary: Out of the box the E-1500 worked well with the pair of Cisco AE-1000 N adapters as well as the various G devices we have...shortly after we started having problems like random dropouts ( it would say we had intenet but we didnt, manually reset the adapter and it worked again/all was fine at the modem end and G adapters) and odd random slowdowns, I opened the Cisco connect software and was notified there was an important update for the router, I followed the instructions...

P.I.T.A. installation

Anonymous, Newegg
3 April 2012
  • Summary: Does not just work out of box. Maybe this is common to many wireless modems, but I've setup a fair amount of other hardware before, e.g. scanners, cable/DSL modems, wireless devices, and NOT wasted this much time.
  • Pros: < $25
  • Cons: P.I.T.A. to install. Spent at least 45 min. getting this to work w/ 1 Ethernet machine, 1 wireless thinkpad. Downloaded the Windows 7 x64 Connect software. Broke my LAN network as soon as I installed the product. Found out from lots of trial and error, that it at least required to reset cable modem. Then only to find later, that it required another download of update software. Waited on that, then their "easy key" was another unnecessary, poorly designed addition whic...

I fixed the slow wireless download speeds after dealing with the worst customer service experience of my entire life

Anonymous, Newegg
4 January 2012
  • Summary: Many hours wasted. Rude, rude, rude, awful customer service. I'd never called tech support for a networking product ('cause networks are what I do), and was shocked by the outcome. I just bought some TP-Link and Encore routers today. Many years of loyal Cisco/Linksys patronage *destroyed* after dialing their toll-free customer support line (several times).
  • Pros: I experienced the same problem with two refurbished E1500 routers (pathetic ~ .3Mbps download speeds over wireless, yet "full speed" 4.2Mbps upload over wireless and "full speed" over wired connections). I "fixed" by disabling WMM support (Applications & Gaming > QoS > WMM Support). Now the wireless connection is ~ 20Mbps/4.2Mbps (perfect for the current ISP subscription at the location of interest). Note: firmware was flashed to latest revision, 1.0.02, prior to any ...
  • Cons: I called Linksys to request an RMA. Each of the techs required that I perform some basic troubleshooting steps with them while on the phone (at best, they seem to probably be following some simple FAQ for dummies). I oblige, but not before asking each rep if s/he would allow me to provide a rundown of the many troubleshooting steps I've already taken (not my first rodeo- I've setup nearly 200 Linksys boxes--though no E1500s--with nary an issue). Each rep agreed, and I...

Wireless Sucks

cthornton1, Ebay
12 November 2011
  • Summary: Wired I am getting high speed downloads. Wireless I am on or even below dial up speeds. Sucks I wasted my money on this item. The WRT54G was faster but giving problems, it was back when Linksys built real products

Unconfigurable

Toby R. Douglass, Amazon
18 August 2012
  • Summary: A bit about me; I'm a software engineer, twenty years experience. I've always built my own computers, as well as for a few friends. Now, having owned Netgear wireless routers and having been left with the feeling that under the hood, the software is in terrible shape and where those routers are in storage in England and I'm in Sweden, I thought I'd try a Linksys to see what they're like. And what they're like is : UNCONFIGURABLE. Now, it may just be me.
