noisy, but work as needed unless you are wanting to perform some more advanced features
9 October 2014
Summary: pros - price, performance, gigabit, sfp uplinks, manageable cons - not easily stacked, vlan spanning doesn't work very well, management interface is quite poor, very noisy! bought these for the home lab, overall i've been happy but wish i could stack them and perform simple things like vlan spanning. management interface makes it difficult at times to get things done, and for a home lab they are incredibly noisy ! i'm often finding myself wanting to switch them off.
Summary: Let's face it getting a quality gige solution these days is challenging. I wish I knew of HP, and their procurve line much sooner. This switch is really an amazing value. If you know about managed switches, and need the networking support look no further. This switch has a kitchen sink waiting for you. I got my pair to support the other three 8 port desktop units I acquired. It does vlans, and the gigabit is high quality.
Summary: Purchased this unit about 2 weeks ago, to install in a room which is also used as a home recording studio. The unit has many good points, its fast, works great, is easy to configure, and it has a downside. Normally the room noise is about 41-42 dB, however when this unit is switched on the room noise jumps to 57-58 dB. If you dont mind the fan noise, buy it, but if you want to hold a normal conversation in the same room, pass it by.
