Great managed switch for the money
25 May 2013
Summary: Not much to say. Its a killer little managed switch for the money. It is the same management interface as the bigger switches. Seems to work well. I have no complaints. Crazy cheap price. It was not much more than many unmanaged switches with the same number of ports. No brainer.
Summary: 7-port 10/100, 1-port Gig, HP Managed Switch (J9079A ProCurve Switch 1700-8). This Switch is fanless, it doesn't heat and there is NO noise (absolutely silent). Generates very little power. This has 3.4 Gbps Switching capacity Manage this Switch using a Web browser. Creating vlan's, trunking, lacp, etc. Check out HP's Web site for more info. HP does sell an 8 port Switch, with all Gig interface.

6 December 2010
Summary: This switch can be accessed via web interface but individual ports cannot be managed such as enable/disable -misrepresented. Only one port is rated at 1000GB. Buy the HP "unmanaged" switch that does have 1000GB ports.
Summary: This a great switch for the money. I purchased this switch to use for my home network and it has many useful features. I like the web interface function that allows you to create VLANS, modify IP addresses, set the speed, LDAP. The switch also allows the Firmware can be upgraded using the firmware that is freely available on HP's website. It does not have a command line interface.
