Summary: I have installed at least half a dozen of these over the last year. As noted under the "cons" I strongly recommend flashing the firmware immediately after unboxing. I've set these up as Routers, AP's and Range Extenders. I find they work particularly well as extenders.
Pros: Convenient multi-function unit. It is handy for me to carry one SKU to cover three different applications. Easy to configure and update even via Wi-Fi.
Cons: I have occasionally had some of these units with flakey connectivity. I strongly recommend flashing to the latest firmware before even starting to configure.
Summary: Range seems to be about the same as my CradlePoint MBR95 which I use as the router since it can connect to a mobile hotspot.
Pros: The easiest setup for a range extender I've ever seen. Setup on my Android phone. Worked flawlessly and almost automatic. Just set the WiFi to connect an it opened my browser. Really didn't need the manual. For the price it's great.
Summary: This router is very small and very light. It is about the size of a post card. The only reason i didn't give it 5 eggs is because the cords will sometimes pull the router off the table because it is so light. It weighs about as much as a cheap 10 key calculator.
Summary: Had a problem with different Edimax router that I purchased from Newegg and the people at Edimax sent me this one. I gotta say that over the years I've spent some time on the phone talking with various company's and the people at Edimax I would have to say rank at the very top.
Summary: I'm comparing this to the Edimax EW-7416APn because they offer very similar features, and I've owned both. If you're OK with just any of the 3 options on the front of the box, this should work fine. Otherwise, if you require advanced tweaking to the setup, you may want to consider the EW-7416APn.
Pros: In comparison to, say, the Edimax EW-7416APn, this has more Ethernet ports than 1, and higher-gain antennae to boot.
Cons: But unfortunately, in comparison to the EW-7416APn again, the options within the router are a bit slim when I peeked inside.
Summary: Can't beat it for the price. So far it does everything it promises. I am using it as an access point and am using the wireless ISP function to connect internet through my existing wifi. It supports just about any network type you could imagine.
