Summary: The unit worked well for 3 weeks, then it failed. So sad :( Hardware setup was simple. Configuring the router was more difficult. The CD didn't work for me, so I used the Web-based configuration utility, guided by the manual on the CD. BTW, my OS is Win XP SP-3 PROBLEM: I could not connect to my router's web page, even though the hardware was set up correctly. My router's IP address is [...] (from the bottom of the unit).
Summary: I have been wrestling with this DIR-601 for about 6 months now. I have moved it all over the house to try to improve signal strength and yet I still get multiple drops on a daily basis. We have 3 computers and a squeezebox all running off of it and unless we are in the same room it seems to hang and drop connection. The squeezebox seems to be better now that I have given it a big buffer.
Summary: Unfortunately, this router suffers from intermittent lapses in broadcast. I have not had a problem with the hard wired desktop attached to it but the wireless cuts out when using my laptop and Roku player. Both are stationary and all are in the same room as the router. Online and phone support were great but could not fix the problem. Went with a N300 Belkin for ten dollars more and have had no issues. You get what you pay for sometimes.
Excerpt: We have had nothing but problems with this device since we got it. It will just lose signal or reboot itself whenever it wants. After numerous phone calls to dlink tech support (in which I was hung up on). i was also told they would call me back when going from one tier of tech support to another and never getting a call. They finally gave me a rma which I have to send the unit back so they can fix it and send it back to me.
Excerpt: The low price, and the promise of reliability for the home attracted me.... this time I was wrong.....not a deal. I'm returning it and for approximately $10- $15 more, I'll have a product that runs circles around this. Cheap ? INDEED, in the worst way.
Summary: I found that this is not worth the money. I had multiple customer service calls with Dell on this item. What I finally discovered, was that, if I was just on my laptop, or just watching my WII. It worked okay. If I was watching my WII, and surfing the internet on my laptop, this router dropped bandwidth and reset frequently.
Summary: I bought this router because the info stated it was easy to install. It was a nightmare. Couldn't get it installed after several tries. Kept telling me to take out the CD and start over. No help from customer service. I just installed an updated version from my telephone carrier with ease. Would never purchase another brand like this one.
Summary: Very cheap, but totally useless. I only needed to use this as a secondary router for my media centre (to connect receiver, mac mini, roku to my network). All wired, no wireless required. It couldn't hold a connection for more than 30 mins before it would need to be power cycled. Returned in favour of a more expensive Asus, and everything works perfectly.
Summary: I bought this router about a year ago and it is just terrible, you loose connection walking to one side of the house, and the router is in the middle. The speeds on this are horrible, we went to switch to bell thinking it was rogers connection that was bad.. this router decreases your speed by 80%. My upload was 9/mb and download is 1/mb. Just dont buy this router regardless of anything.
