Summary: router works great...I am basically just using this as a wired router, I don't use the screen or the network drive. The routers performance isn't bad...I'm getting 94 Mb/s out of the 100 Mb/s bandwidth that I've subscribed for.
Summary: im sure you could find cheaper routers that can do the network job. The extra fuctions of this router IMHO are worth the extra coin. so 4 EGGs from me. id give it 5 but over looking the touch screen Vs. buttons design just kicks it to the left a bit.
Pros: with all it features it still was a sinch to configure and set up. the screen is not only BLING! but has alot of nice info it can display.(or not) a nice clock and Im giddy over the network display info. I go the sb6120 with this and saw some gains in DL/UL speeds. With 4 gaming rigs worth of tra...
Cons: even though the touch screen is shiny, its made some inputs a hassle at times. I think some nice buttons would have worked nicely. the picture viewer is like why, but hey I can see megan fox on my router!!!
Pros: Does a great job doing what a normal D-Link router does. LCD is a bit buggy, but the FrameChannel feature is nice, though the screen is so small you have to get up close to read. NAS works great, if a bit slow compared to NAS-only and server setups.
Cons: The media streaming performs horribly, though from my experience the problem isn't the NAS performance, it's the streaming service. Really, this product just needs some firmware update love from D-Link to make it exceptional.
Summary: The DIR-685 is numerous products in one compact router. I like the router's capabilities, ease of setup and configuration as well as it's range and speed. It uses all the latest innovations to allow it to compete against the best routers on the market.
Summary: Where to begin? This product is just so many things at once, that it's hard to be sure what parts are most important in a review! Perhaps the best thing to do is to first consider the D-Link DIR685 as a wireless router? Or perhaps as a NAS? Maybe as a digital photo frame?
