Nice little NAS box, Good for general Internet and Some gaming
17 October 2012
Summary: Bought this to try it out. Disappointed that DHCP and QoS didn't get enough Development and QA. Reserving IP addresses causes the router and device not to work. IP addresses reserved ON the router fails to appear correct on the clients. This causes the router and DHCP services to stop working.
Summary: I will start by saying that if you have a setup hitch, D-link's tech support is about as bad as they come. The Level 1 techs do not know anything. They are completely useless and shouldn't be employed by anyone ever.
Summary: After 6-7 months it began rebooting itself several times a day. At inconvenient times of course. It has the latest firmware and I never used a hard drive in it. I tried the tip in the knowledge base about turning off upnp but it didn't help.
Pros: All the features. Works great when it stays on.
Cons: Sending it in for warranty leaves you without a unit. Going to see if they'll ship a refurbished one but not holding my breath.
Summary: had to send the original back and get another and the new one still has issues like the frame channel wont show on it? and tec support is a joke, make sure you have a land line or lots of minuits on your cell plan if you call them!
Summary: Going to be contacting them about it. I would recommend a seperate NAS and a different router.
Pros: It has lots of nice features. I wanted the NAS just for backing up stuff and having it easily accessible on the network. Didn't carabout the screen but it is handy to see it when the unit decides to reboot regularly. Has latest firmware and never even put a HD in yet.
Cons: The price is a bit high. It has begun rebooting itself whenever it feels like it, regardless of use. Happens when streaming movies or just surfing.
Summary: Brought home the DLINK DIR-685 last night. At first all seemed to go well. Initial configuration was a breeze. Was able to quickly connect several PCs, NAS & VOIP devices. Right away I noticed that two wireless PCs were dropping their connections intermittently.
Summary: I bought this product hoping to replace my current ADSL modem/router by one device that also adds USB network devices, and a Network storage. But due to my ignorance, I realise that this does not replace the DSL modem! Pity, I still have to keep two devices ON all the time.
