Summary: When it works, it's really great and fast and all, but smart beam is not a genius beam.
Pros: Pretty long range, It works for a long time. I've had this on for over a year until I had to unplug it for upgrading network. It litterally said 300+ days in up-time.
Cons: In the "outskirts" it sometimes seems to get low speeds and/or disconnect. Maybe it gets confused by obstructions and bouncing that is caused by chance interferance making it "smartbeam" to the wrong place. Then I turn on another device, in the same area and then it re-finds the disconnected device. But I guess this is better than it not working at all.
Summary: After the firmware update, WiFi is working great. No disconnects in a few days on any device. If I were a speculating man, I'd think it had something to do with the antennas switching around and making the connection puke.
Pros: Good range. Can't say it'd be "whole home" for most, but it still gives excellent coverage across the house, and even towards the end of my backyard, but gets spotty there.
Cons: Only nitpick I had about this product was its initial status on the first 2 days. Constant disconnects from WiFi. No matter what device used, internet connection would just drop and I'd have to software reset the laptop/tablet/Roku just to get it going again. After large data transfer or ~30 mins, it'd just drop any device, pretty much guaranteed or your money back. I was debating between a return or RMA, but didn't want to put up with the hassle.
Summary: I could never understand why people judge a product or manufacturer harshly calling it "junk" or telling people not to buy it based on their one bad experience with the product. There is no such thing as a perfect brand, just some better than others.
Pros: Excellent router. I bought this router back in March of 2012 and it has performed flawlessly, no resets. I got 2 laptops and 2 PC's on the wireless and I get great signal and good range. Nice design, too.
Pros: Very customizable, has options to customize almost anything. I love the guest network option.
Cons: The VPN connections are blocked by default. Took me a while to figure out that I needed to enable the PPTP option to be able to connect to my work VPN server. It can be a little confusing to understand all the settings.
"Give a second try on D-link's router after 4 years."
16 January 2012
Pros: Strange and cool rocket look design, not like other traditional flat router. Pretty stable NG Mixed wireless connection so far, and the Signal Quality does increase as advertised. User-friendly and self explained interface useful features, Qos, IPv6.
Cons: Hard to do cable management as the LAN ports are vertical behind. Easy to get finger print on the router. The shine-less plastic and light weighted feels 'eco' and cheap. Not 5Ghz support ( I don't care that, but someone may.) Hope can flash DD-WRT.
Summary: If it lasts as long as the DIR-655 it replaced, then it will be a very worthwhile investment.
Pros: I bought this to replace a D-Link DIR-655, which worked great but I had 2 really bad dead spots in my home. After researching this router and it's advanced signalling technology, I thought I'd give it a shot. Well it works as advertised. The dead spots are gone, and all my other devices are connected with a greater signal strength than before. I love it!
