Summary: Excellent mini-router. I installed OpenWRT on mine (search Google for "D-link DIR-505 support?" forum thread on openwrt.org forums), and it makes for an excellent little travel router. My only complaint is that the throughput isn't great. At my university, I get nearly symmetric 100 mbps up/down when my PC is connected straight through an ethernet cable, but the throughput on the DIR-505L is only about 20/40 mbps (yes--upload speeds are twice as fast as download speeds,...
Summary: Even though there are some reported security issues with this device, it did come in handy when I went to the Canadian side of Niagra Falls. Our hotel only allowed for 2 wifi hookups in our room, having this device allowed all three of us to have multiple wifi connections outward. Setup is easy - I did it through Safari on my iPad in the hotel. I'm a fan.
Summary: Okay, got this for a trip to Europe coming up this summer, so that we could book places with internet jacks but no WiFi, and I could still use my iPad. So my objective was to set it up as a wireless Access Point after updating the firmware. To update the firmware, just put the outside switch into "HotSpot" mode and plugged it into the wired ethernet port on my laptop.
Summary: I bought this to travel with my ipad and galaxy tab. The internet connection was full wireless signal opposed to minimal without it. It's easy to set up and use. I also used the USB port for charging.
Versitile little product, but wish it had a vpn client

Summary: The is a great portable product. I routing use this when travelling to create a personal hotspot from a single login to a hotspot service. My only wish to add would be a vpn client to encrypt all information from the hotspot back to my home server.
