suitable for light personal use only

  • Summary: This review is for the 8-port model (DGS-1100-08). I have two of these. Both have the same problems. It works most of the time as a switch. But the web interface often becomes unresponsive after a day or two of operation. Won't respond to pings, either.

D-Link 8-Port Managed Switch

Jay R., Newegg
25 February 2014
  • Summary: I had a horrible time trying to configure it until I switched from Chrome to Firefox and then suddenly everything worked as it was supposed to. I know this is a problem for all manufacturers because the browsers change often but I wish there had been a note in the docs to avoid Chrome with this...
  • Pros: Small, cheap, fast, quiet (no fan)
  • Cons: It would always be nice to have other features like a telnet interface or SNMP but at this price point, that is probably unrealistic. It works as advertised and does it well.

Excellent value for a managed switch. Compact and reliable.

  • Summary: Needed a managed switch as i needed to make my Linux box with a single ethenet port my router. With a managed switch and VLANs this is easily possible. Plus 8 ports at gigabit speed makes this a no brainer. Most commercial routers have 4 ports + 1 wan port and have low power CPU's.
