Summary: I'll start by saying that I got this with a very simple thing in mind: sharing peripherals without a security risk. We already have many of the computers and peripherals in our house set up on a wireless network via a modem and hub. I often need to print documents securely (e.g. patient records) and do not want any risk attendant with sending confidential information over a wireless network.
Great switch, even better Customer Service from Amazon.

Summary: I bought this for my Father for the holidays. Due to a mix up with the USPS, it wasn't delivered on time (no fault of Amazon). Amazon, being the incredible customer service they always are, immediately sent out another - free of charge, no questions asked! So my dad got his a few days later, and setup his home network/security system on it, and it has been working flawlessly for a month! On top of that, due to USPS routing, I received the original switch in the mail.
Need a hub? Forget it. By a switch. Cheap and functional.

Summary: I needed a hub or a switch so I could connect laptops and other devices to my home network conveniently. Switches are so cheap it does not make sense to use hubs. I didn't need security or to configure VLANs, just a simple switch. I didn't get into the features of this switch because I didn't need features. I bought on price and seller rep. It works fine; just plug it in. It is small, inexpensive and it works fine.
