Summary: This tiny piece of equipment is the perfect item if your machine does not have a wireless card, it is very easy to install, the software is built in, just plug it into an available USB port and let it install itself. Just follow the prompts and wait for it to finish. There is only one thing that you will need and that is your passkey (your password) to log on to your network and you are ready to go.
Summary: This works fine now, but I'm taking away 2 stars because I spent two hours trying to get it to work. I finally went to the website and found that there's a set-up.exe file on a built in flash drive. This PC was set up for a different Cisco/Linksys adapter so I expected just a "Plug&Play" set up. No so. You must install the software. In XP, open up My Computer, find the Valet, right click, open, then double-click on set-up.exe.
Summary: This was a great improvement over the built in Wifi of my laptop. I bought one a couple years back and it worked so well when I need one for another computer I looked for this one first. Pros: Built in drivers. Plug it in and the install driver software runs automatically (Windows Only) Range is great. Boosted my signal 2 bars over the built in Wifi card in the laptop. Faster throughput. The built in wifi would have lots of rebuffers on video streaming.
Summary: I purchased the adapter after having it recommended. I was trying to use a desktop computer as a "wireless" since my wireless interface card within the computer went bad. After spending hours trying to get it to work, I gave up on it and bought a new computer. I do not know if the problem I encountered was the fault of the adapter or if it was a compatibility problem. At any rate it, I don't think it is fair to give the adapter a bad rating.
Summary: Connected and came up with install (like a thumb drive). Tried to install and install failed. Restarted PC and tried again with same result. Called Cisco and they told me it was out of warranty so they would have to charge me for support. Eventually it just started working for a day, then just stopped working and never came back up. I am an IT guy and can usually fix most things. Drivers are fine, PC is top of the line with no other errors. Error log is clean.
Summary: I lvoe that the device driver is built into the device on on-board flash memory. Many of my customers tend to lose the driver discs and since I am not in the same location as them, having the driver built-in makes reinstalling the device MUCH easier.
Summary: I thought this would work as usb wireless adapter with any device. even though I got it as a gift with the wireless cisco router... as Amazon promotion but they don't work together. You would think when amazon bundle items or offer items for free it is compatible. Guess what, NO. I didn't want to have extra wireless adapter to connect my computer or tv or anything but the fact that I found it after all these years and I don't have a use for it, its just shame on cisco to...
Summary: It didn't have updated drivers so it wouldn't install. Tried to get help from Cisco support, they gave me another phone number to call, and give them a support ticket number, and then they would give me a website to download the newest drivers. You have to jump thru hoops to get the updated drivers.
