Summary: Ordered this switch to replace a failed 24 port 10/100 3Com Superstack III switch. Everything came up OK and worked fine for the first day but next morning when traffic got higher switch started dropping connections and losing packets. Rebooting helped for only a few minutes and behavior would repeat. Am returning this switch and will be looking for a different product to replace it with.

Summary: I was using an old Linksys 10/100 5 port switch that must have have been more than 7 years old and one of the ports finally gave up on me. I needed more ports and researched a number of brands, but Cisco seemed to be one of the higher quality brands and carried a very good warranty. This is a little more expensive (you can get some of the smart switches from others at same of less price), but as soon as I opened the box, I could see/feel that this was a quality device.
Summary: I bought two of these switches to replace a Linksys switch; but both of them seem to have issues. One of them seemed to be twitchy (inconsistant connections) then just stopped working. The other seems to have a couple of bad ports. I'm going to contact amazon to return them. Hopefully this was some sort of fluke or something happened to them in shipping? I normally have good results with Cisco gear.

Summary: My Uncle had an old Netgear "high end" switch... He was having network issues with many devices and three different WiFi routers. After re-configuring his whole network it worked much better. When he switched to this Cisco Switch all his other issues vanished and now rarely has a network issue that doesn't lead to troubleshooting the device trying to connect instead of the network itself.
Summary: This switch has enough ports to keep me going for quite some time. I use it as my main switch at home. It also has a high speed optical input if your Cable company ever gets to that point. I mainly use this to connect the rest of my network, which consists of various computers, BlueRay players, IP Cameras, Slingbox, DVR, etc. and I use three other switches in other parts of the house connected to this one.
