Overheats in an hour, save your money and buy a different brand!

korith, Ebay
15 October 2012
  • Summary: Have used linksys products for a very long time, so when I saw this router listed, I did not hesitate to buy it. After trying it out for an hour or so, the router would overheat and shut off. I looked online and realized this E2000 router has a lot of bad reviews. Just search on google for the terms "E2000 linksys heat" and thousands of hits pop up. The router itself has no heatsinks or fans in it, so heat will build up in it.

  • Summary: After purchasing a Cisco Linksys router 13 months ago it stopped recognizing the internet from the cable modem. I called customer service (case #120609-004400), was charged $29.99 for the one phone call, and after 2 hours with a technician was told the device is broken and I could receive a $15 rebate on a new or refurbished Cisco Linksys router. I opted to go to Wal-mart and purchase a Netgear N750 WNDR400 and had it set up within 3 minutes.

Bad Firmware

Rob T.S., Amazon
27 October 2011
  • Summary: While the hardware seems functional the firmware has a critical bug, you cannot use certain subnets (for example 192.168.33.0) as they are reserved for the 'guest network'. This router does not even have the guest wifi network feature. The latest firmware does not resolve this problem and if you happen to use one of these incompatible subnets on your network, like me, you will find the device unusable. I will have to try to return it.

Wrong plug

Dafulcrum, Amazon
3 October 2011
  • Summary: Out of the box, the power cord would not plug into the back of the router. Never even got the power on. Called Cisco and they said I had to return it to Amazon. Were not interested in finding out if the had a manufacturing problem or not, just dismissed me. Returning to Amazon and buying a non-Cisco router.

Awful useability

KG, Amazon
29 July 2011
  • Summary: Am completely dissatisfied with the usability of this router. I would label myself as somewhat tech-savvy and have had to contact customer service multiple times in the first week of having the router just to get my laptop connected. The only setup instructions come with a CD, but if the CD setup stops working in the middle, and you try to run the CD again, it will break the setup.

Whatever happened to customer service?

Glen Schoenberg, Amazon
30 June 2011
  • Summary: The device works well; it has increased my wireless internet speed and has not dropped the connection at all. The only problem I had was the installation of the router. My laptop is over a year old and the network drivers would not work with this device. Tech support was horrible, as you cannot call them; it has to be over internet chat, which doesn't work if your router is not working so I had to do it over my phone which was not efficient or user friendly at all.

User Review

Mike2772, Walmart
22 March 2011
  • Summary: I fought this router for two hours and lost. It would not connect to my cable modem, and the configuration capabilities were woefully inadequate for what I needed. The Cisco Connect software I thought was absolutely horrible. I returned it and bought a similarly priced Netgear. I was up and running with the Netgear in 6 minutes...including the time to take it out of the box.
