Worked great...until it didn't

Jared W., Newegg
28 May 2015
  • Summary: I was told on the phone I can check out the FAQs and the forums, but there hasn't been anything posted regarding this model since 2013...and no responses to anything posted since 2011. What a joke. This influenced my replacement purchase, which is a Netgear model.
  • Pros: Awesome speeds, robust user interface, easy initial setup.
  • Cons: I found out the hard way that Buffalo stops supporting products after 3 years, so you can't even call them for help. I bought this in 2010, and it just stopped functioning two days ago. Unable to resolve DNS, unable to configure IP, various resets didn't work, and the easy setup isn't able to det...

Works great

Benjamin C., Newegg
11 February 2013
  • Pros: works well with factory firmware once configured properly. Range is good (just live in a small condo, and get reception all the way by my parking spot). No issues streaming videos wirelessly off the harddrive I plugged into it as a NAS to my PS3.
  • Cons: Had issues with wireless dropping frequently, don't recall the exact fix, but recall something about using 40MHz. DD-WRT is available directly from Bufallo, but beware that you will lose some functionality that is built in, while gaining other advanced benefits from dd-wrt. Mainly, I couldn't fig...

Sent me version 2

James G., Newegg
9 November 2012
  • Summary: This router can totally make breakfast. Any awesome sauce with that?
  • Pros: Be prepared to have so many features you could take a bath in em.
  • Cons: I ordered this WZR-HP-G300NH but they sent me a WZR-HP-G300NH2 instead. Not a biggie except I was going to use alternate firmware Gargoyle and the WZR-HP-G300NH2 is only supported in an experimental release of Gargoyle. I bricked it once because I put the WZR-HP-G300NH version of Gargoyle on it a...

Really nice, but...

Anonymous, Newegg
25 October 2012
  • Summary: Most who would buy this wouldn't use the terrible "friendly" firmware anyway. I wish the GUI supported one-to-one NAT. Haven't crashed it while torrenting yet. Higher throughput and more concurrent connections than my Sonicwall TZ180.
  • Pros: Sleek, customizable, "professional" DD-WRT GUI is very feature rich, can be accessed by SSH, you can convert the WAN port to a switch port when using as an access point. Looks cool, but it's in my crawl space. Will not crash when when downloading at 5MB (capital B) per second torrenting with hund...
  • Cons: Physically, kind of cheap feeling. You loose access to the web-based GUI and you have to power cycle, which is really annoying when the router's in a crawl space. After updating the firmware, this hasn't happened again. I mentioned the GUI is feature rich, but there is no support for multiple WAN...

Good value with OpenWRT

Dustin N., Newegg
21 September 2012
  • Pros: It has gigabit ports, N support and USB 2.0. The hardware is Atheros. It runs a 400 MHz MIPS 24kc CPU and has 64MB RAM which means it can handle tons of simultaneous connections while also running all features at the same time. You can install OpenWRT on it and this essentially turns it into a mi...
  • Cons: The wireless has the usual issues. If you have RF interference or a lot of wifi congestion in your area, you'll have speed and connectivity issues. Wifi speeds are as expected (remember there is ~50% overhead with wifi). The Buffalo firmware is ok but unusual and people complain about it a lot. I...

Good router for the money

Donald W., Newegg
20 September 2012
  • Summary: Once re-flashing the router with the basic firmware, everything was smooth sailing. I wish there was better documentation for this device...but what can I expect for $46.99 Overall, i would recommend this router for a SOHO environment.
  • Pros: The hardware; i got this for 46.99 after MIR which is a steal for a 5 port gigabit router. The wireless range is respectable. I have a tablet with mediocre wireless antennae and i can get a reliable signal in my 2,000 sq ft house no problem. It has DD-WRT so setup is a mostly a breeze, see cons a...
  • Cons: setting up the network printer off of this routers usb port was a nightmare and it shouldn't have been. The documentation on this router is unhelpful at best, and the buffalo support forum is worthless. turns out, after 3 days of fighting with the router, i find out that there is 2 different vers...

Long Range And Boosts Speed!

riley k., Newegg
27 July 2012
  • Pros: Very long range after you tweak the settings a bit. Look at other reviews for those settings. Also boosted my download speed by 10mb/s. :)
  • Cons: Had to return the first one due to it bricking after installing DD-WRT.

Flaky... Buggy...

aaron g., Newegg
30 May 2012
  • Summary: I would avoid this router unless you like unreliable service
  • Pros: Has good amount of flash and fairly nice Processor
  • Cons: Flakes out, even with OpenWrt and DD-WRT. I have version 1 of this router and have had nothing but trouble with it. My old G router running tomato runs circles around this and is rock solid.
