This router overheats a lot. Even though it's sitting ...

Jack, Amazon
2 November 2014
  • Summary: This router overheats a lot. Even though it's sitting vertically on top of a bookshelf with nothing near it it somehow manages to need a powercycle daily. Thankfully, there is a configuration for that in the DD-WRT firmware!

Worked great, at first...

Daniel L., Newegg
2 July 2014
  • Pros: Wireless was powerful Speed was good
  • Cons: After about 35 days of use, the Internet port stopped working. It would no longer connect to the Internet, but I could reach the device over the network. That means it lasts long enough for NewEgg not to deal with it and have to go through Buffalo customer service...

Polished Turd

E. Karas, Amazon
16 February 2014
  • Summary: At first I was excited to set this thing up, then I started to slowly discover that certain features just don't work, such as the SAMBA service. I flashed it with the latest DD-WRT release for this model, and then it just went even worse.

WAP function poorly documented

Jonathan E. Jaffe, Amazon
24 May 2013
  • Summary: After 4 hours on my own and 1 hour with support I returned this item. I was trying to install it as a wireless access point (WAP, an advertised capability). There were many pages of quick start guides, but none for that function. Support didn't have one for me either.

William J., Newegg
24 April 2013
  • Summary: fine if your looking for a typical router and aren't afraid to flash firmware. bad if looking for dd-wrt support or open dns
  • Pros: average connection somewhat easy setup (have to change firmware to get it to work...)
  • Cons: have to flash the firmware to the easy version (externally downloaded) not dd-wrt support

Sir, put the router down and step away!

Christopher W., Newegg
12 January 2012
  • Summary: Maybe they should read their own forms…Come on, fix this!!!
  • Pros: When working, it's fast. Large area.
  • Cons: This router is fine ‘IF’ you’re the only one using it…once two or more are on it, it drops connection and has to be hard-booted - Sometime up to 9 time a day. Terrible! Stay away from this one.

Not nearly as strong as you'd expect

Mark D, Amazon
24 September 2011
  • Summary: I bought this router thinking that with the giant antennas and the write-up that it would be stronger than my existing router. (Netgear N600) Boy was I wrong. It's at least 25-30% weaker. Major disappointment.
