Excerpt: The Play Max is Belkin’s new flagship consumer router. It, along with the new Surf, Share, and Play routers, is designed for easy installations and consumer friendliness. As the industry moves to make wireless networking easier Belkin is finally taking some steps forward, making things easier on consumers and trying to reduce the number of calls made to tech support.
Summary: The Belkin Play Max Wireless Router seems like a simple and fast wireless router, but its useless desktop software and cumbersome USB-related features make it less appealing than other options.
Pros: The Belkin Play Max Wireless Router is compact, supports true dual-band, Gigabit Ethernet, guest networking, network storage, and USB printers. It offers fast wireless performance and a long range.
Cons: The Belkin Play Max Wireless Router requires the Belkin Router Manager software to be running on a computer for its advanced features to work. It is confusing to set up and use, doesn't have any status indicator lights, and its network storage performance is slow. The router gets hot when used for an extended amount of time, and its firmware is buggy.
Conclusion: Belkin's Play Max router is a tale of two vital ingredients; hardware and software. On the hardware front, the router is compact, looks smart, performs well and showed us no signs of instability throughout a week of heavy usage. Dual-band Wireless N and Gigabit Ethernet top the feature list, and preset security settings ensure that even network amateurs won't be out of their depth. Unfortunately, it's the router's software that detracts from the overall experience.
Conclusion: Along with the rich additional features offered by the Play Max Wireless Router, the ease of setup and noticeable speed bump, particularly when using wireless connectivity, impressed us no end. Whether you intend using even a fraction of the additional features on offer, in our minds this certainly made the case for this router being high up on one’s technology wish list. It has an RRP of R1899.
Pros: Easy setup, Excellent speeds, Abundance of extra features
Cons: Fairly large, Made our Telkom modem look prehistoric by comparison, Expensive
Pros: Volledig;, Overzichtelijk control panel;
Cons: Niet op te hangen;, Geen status ledjes;, WAN-poort schiet te kort;
