Does not work as advertised

EdeSouza, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: I needed a router with a bigger range in order to replace the one I got from my internet provider. According to Amped their product cover up to 3x more room than their competitors. After hours setting up, updating firmwares and countless phone calls to costumer service, Amped decides to tell me their unit is defective and I should replace it.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up
  • Cons: Difficult To Set Up, Needs To Be Updated

  • Summary: My previous wifi router was on the fritz, and it had originally been purchased when I lived in a much smaller home. I looked forward to replacing it with one that would provide better coverage throughout my whole home (2 story with basement, 2600 sq feet). The amped router looked like the perfect solution to cover my entire home and most of my yard space as well.

Do they even test these before they send them out?

Chris A., Amazon

  • Summary: This is what you get when you buy a used item on Amazon I have found out. They items state tested and in working condition. I would love to see a checklist of what they test and verify that is in good shape. I received the item and at first glance things looked ok. As soon as I went to screw in the antennas I realize that one of the main parts that you screw the antennas into is broke on the inside and wiggles everywhere. Tech support was great from amazon.

Unreliable

Kevin Burns, Amazon
27 October 2013
  • Summary: At first, I really enjoyed the speed over my previous AyrMesh wireless G. Then the new router started having trouble maintaining the connection. It frequently needs to be rebooted and when it does, it usually needs to be rebooted several times in the same day. Then it's okay for a week or two. Unfortunately, I waited too long to return it, so I just stuck it in a closet and reconnected the AyrMesh.

Defective Product

Kara, Amazon

  • Summary: I ordered this product and was expecting a high quality product as Ampedwiress has a reputation for high-end products. However, I was very disappointed in several aspects. First, I had ordered this from the "amazonwarehouse" It seemed like a good deal and was listed as "like new" and amazonwarehouse verified. When I received the router it was defective out of the box.

Did Not Live Up To My Expectations...

  • Summary: Amped Wireless' R20000G doesn't support the 450Mbps standard, runs hot, and has terrible data rates on the 2.4GHz band and relatively short range on the 5GHz band. The router's built-in USB port doesn't support printers.

Amped Wireless R20000G review

remixedcat, Overclock
10 March 2013
  • Excerpt: Intro: The R20000G was extremely easy to setup. 3 steps and in 2 minutes and I was online. It took another minute to configure my WiFi preferences and another for the router to reboot to complete that. All done in 5 minutes. The setup wizard is very well written and detailed.

Expensive let down

Amazon Customer, Amazon
9 January 2013
  • Summary: I purchased this to replace my Dlink DIR-825 router. The DLink was a decent router but it had terrible range thus I was lead to the Amped Wireless R20000G router. I was also considering the Netgear WDNR4500 but the long range claims of the Amped R20000G sold me. Upon receipt of the R20000G, I powered it up and verified that it had the most up to date firmware. I was pleased to see that it did have the most up to date Firmware Version: v2.5.3.22, release date 09/26/12.

Did Not Live Up To My Expectations...

JRad, Amazon
25 October 2012
  • Summary: Well, where to begin. I bought this router so I could increase the throughput and effective range of my wi-fi network in my 2-story, 2700sqft home. The router lives on one side of the house (upstairs), and I was having signal issues on the first floor and the other side of the house. My carrier provided DOCSIS3 modem/Wi-fi router combo was also not delivering the throughput I was expecting.
