Logitech Harmony 890 Advanced Universal Remote Control

Hanuman, Rate it all!
4 October 2009
  • Summary: I purchased the 890 when I went on vacation and had a friend stay at my house. The Harmony 880 I had was so quirky that I was afraid she will be completely lost so I got the 890 for a trial. So far so good. The 890 is much faster and much more reliable than the 880. The online software download is still just as quirky but usually it is a one time set up so that is not a big deal.

"Awesome IR feature"

rudekat, CNET
19 April 2009
  • Pros: IR, I love being able to control my entertainment system from anywhere in the house. I could go outside to Barbecue change the volume on the entertainment system. Wife is able to turn on and off the entertainment system. (big plus)
  • Cons: The setup menu was not too user friendly. It was a little tricky setting up the remotes. I didn't like how long it took to sync my remotes together, but doing it paid off. I also think it's over priced ($200).

"RF great, but a few steps backwards vs. old Harmony 676"

eloucks, CNET
4 April 2009
  • Pros: universal functions work incredibly well, RF very reliable, stylish, charging station is convenient, easy to program, generous supply of IR emitters, refurbished unit has same warranty as new
  • Cons: button layout and feel could be better, motion detection poor (does not wake up when you pick it up), color screen is not a help, doesn't keep charge very long (not 2 weeks, even with light use), RF receiver must be updated when remote is updated

  • Pros: Programmable, well made, ergonomic design, backlighted buttons
  • Cons: Website accommodates only one unit per User ID,

"Great concept that really works!"

dspenser, CNET
4 February 2008
  • Pros: Works with an impressive number of devices out of the box. Setup Wizard. Background tasks are invisible to the end user.
  • Cons: Picky on my part, but if you have multiple remotes you need to set up a separate account for each one.

"The Logitech Harmony 890 is a must have!!!"

Gabeggg, CNET
18 January 2008
  • Pros: The help menu is actually helpful. If you’re using a Comcast DVR remote this thing almost mimics if features when in DVR mode. The configuration software is user friendly and understandable.
  • Cons: I wish the power cord for the charging stating was longer (3ft 9inch long). You can’t change the display icons.
