Summary: I cannot recommend any Logitech Harmony device.
We probably all know that any universal remote, especially those controlling multiple devices, is going to be a challenge to program. No, I'm not a luddite. I'm very technically proficient.
The manual is incomprehensible and does not match the actual device. For example, for one of the steps to use the device, the manual tells the user to click on "Remote Preferences." There is no such button in their software.
Excerpt: The Logitech Harmony universal remote seems like an excellent idea; we were able to program easily, and there are many choices for the components one can set up with this universal remote. However, since we set it up, it has not been compatible with TIVO, and hence we are no longer able to successfully record programs via TIVO.
Pros: Easy programming
Cons: Poor quality; broken within a few weeks of use; not compatible with TIVO
Excerpt: I have own this remote and many of its predecessors. They all start out great, but it is short lived. They break down. I have dealt with Logitech,at first they tell you its a charging base design flaw. They ship you a new one, then its a bad batch, etc. Eventually, they had to ship me a less model, because they said it was for sure more reliable, the 770. Guess what? I broke down after six months! Same causes. I'm done with them.
Pros: It's great when it works!
Cons: It will break down early and not worth the money
Excerpt: this may be the worst purchase i ever made. i have a harmony 880 that has functioned reasonably well; i purchased the 890 for my home theater system with some enclosed components thinking the RF converter would help. i have wasted hours trying to set it up. the remote itself seems to function but the rf receiver is useless. i have emailed support multiple times; in spite of their promise to respond within 72 hours i have had no response to any email.
Pros: it has a pretty screen and is easy to hold. battery life is adequate
Cons: absolutely the worst tech support i have ever encountered
Excerpt: Very expensive and truly disappointing. Software in the box was a non-functional old version, had to log onto the web site for updates, the updater did not work, the help line was unusually poor (technician got irritated when screens he expected did not appear) and finally he dumped me, saying "it's simple from here on", and of course it wasn't.
