Summary: Installing the software and connecting the remote to a PC is, indeed, easy. Entering all your devices (assuming you know the brand and model number) is easy as well. What isn't as easy and the PR leads you to believe is setting up the activities to get the remote to do what you need it to do.
Summary: Setup and programming isn't too hard or complicated. But the remote has always required sniper sharpshooting accuracy even at an average distance of less than 10ft from the devices being controlled. On average, about 50% of the time, a device will not power on or off when you select an activity.
Summary: I've never been able to leave the other remotes hidden away. If any device self powers off, the Harmony takes about 50 button presses, reading glasses and 2 minutes to get the system back on. Every remote has come out of my drawers and now sits next to the couch.
Pros: Replaces most remotes.
Cons: Absolutely no support for modern computer systems other than Windows or Mac. My Harmony is now impossible to program since my old Mac can no longer be updated to the latest Java. Chromebooks, Linux, Android, iOS are not supported. This device is Oracle Java dependant. Prepare for manual installat...
Summary: Programming between old and new is simple if you use the older software even though they say not to. Can't custom program a single button to say channel 300 only a 3. The number buttons are at the bottom of remote and hard to press and hold with one hand. Colored screen is useless, not necessary.
Cons: Not laid out well, unbalanced, useless features
Summary: As of this moment, 28 Dec. 2014, the software for this controller is completely broken. They initially had a web based software that marginally worked after a few attempts, but then went with a desktop program.
Pros: Does what it's supposed to do...when it works
Cons: Doesn't always does what it's supposed to do...what?
Summary: The Harmony 650 remote was great when it was new. However, the number buttons started to fail intermittently after a year and a half. Now at about the two year mark, the number buttons hardly work at all, and the thin black coating is wearing through at the edges of the buttons.
Cons: Resets itself when your system is on so that the remote thinks everything is off - so you have to cover the beam and turn everything "on" again so the remote is in sync with your devices. Button presses don't always work - sometimes you have to press hard or multiple times. Beam is weak.
