Though setup is simple, a narrow window for tech support means you had better iron out snags early. With a price tag one penny shy of 500 clams (you can buy it online for less), there’s no denying that Logitech’s Harmony 1100 Universal Remote is pricey, until you compare it with touch-screen remote controls from companies such as Crestron and AMX, which cost several times more. Read more

    • Excellent touch-screen; easily programmable; replaces multiple remotes; very comfortable to use
    • Expensive; very short battery life; doesn't support Bluetooth; telephone tech support expires after 60 days

A good friend of mine needed a universal remote with RF to control his new media room.  All of his A/V equipment is behind his couch in the back of the room. He needed the remote for a few months and looked to me for a good tech-solution and a good deal as well. I immediately thought of the . Read more

    • - Well made, - Powerful IR transmitter, - Customizable button layout

Experts say the Logitech Harmony 1100 is blessed with a responsive 3.5-inch touch screen, easy web-based setup and a user-friendly interface. This is a tablet-style remote, which means that the Logitech Harmony 1100 will take up more space on your coffee table than a standard universal remote, but reviewers say the frame is easy to grasp (although it also shows every fingerprint and smudge). • 3.5-inch color touch screen, Easy to program and use, Rechargeable battery
    • Radio-frequency module costs extra, Expensive, Macro functions can't be customized

We've been big fans of Logitech 's Harmony universal remote controls for some time now. The Harmony One won an Award last year, while the Harmony 1000, this rectangular-shaped tablet control's predecessor, bagged a five-star recommendation back in October 2007. Read more

    • Easy to use; regular updates; activities work well; charger
    • No big gain over its predecessor; price hike; can't transfer settings from another Harmony device

On its release, this remote was out of the ordinary. Now, its screen suffers in comparison with smartphones: resistive, not bright enough and with reduced viewing angles - it doesn't feel as if it should cost this much! Read more

    • Set up: automatic (large database) or manual, Option to set button sensitivity and delay, Original concept of macros/ "activities", Rechargeable, Large screen
    • Poor quality screen, Resistive screen, Configuration software isn't easy to understand

Remotes have come a long way since the rectangle. After all, we now have controllers that resemble footballs, Star Trek phasers and ones with giant buttons for the old and the young. However, a lot of us are just normal adults that crave cool control that's less of a novelty. Enter the Harmony 1100 from Logitech, a sleek, slim unit that looks a lot more complex than it actually is. The Harmony 1100 features a 3.5-inch full-color touchscreen and nine hard buttons. Logitech has made a number of Harmony Remotes and each one they make continues to outperform the previous. The Logitech Harmony 1100 is by far the most advanced and expensive remote available. Priced at $399.00 (MSRP) it has the price of a small computer. While many may be deterred by the high price, you get what you pay for. The Harmony 1100 doesn't make many compromises. It boasts a large 3.5′ screen and a nearly infinite list of support devices. Read more

Because the Logitech Harmony 1100 Advanced Universal Remote Control is more technically-challenging than many other remotes, you may want to consider a lower model. Setup time takes nearly an hour at minimum, and users can become easily confused along the way. If you prefer the more traditional shape and size remote, then this one is not for you. If you have a restricted budget, then you will definitely want to consider a different remote. Read more

Ultimately, the Harmony 1100 does carry an expensive suggested price tag of $499.99, but if you have an extensive home theater to control, no other remotes come close to the customizability and control that the 1100 offers. Read more

All good stuff, but is it really worth the best part of £350? There's no doubt the 1100 does what it promises to do and does it well - especially the ease with which it can be set up. Logitech's control code database is commendably comprehensive. But that's true of the company's other universal remotes, such as the 525, which will only set you back £50. Read more

This sets up very easily and has allowed me to stow away 4 different remotes. All the functions for all of my units work great, although it takes a little searching to find some of them. Switching from TV to a game system or watching a DVD takes a push of only 2 buttons. Turning the entire system on or off - only 2 buttons. Upon turning the systems on or off, it always prompts you to verify that the units have responded correctly by pressing OK or asking for more help.. Read more

    • Easy to set up. Consolidates remotes perfectly.
    • The price. Only good for one room of components. A little naggy.

Finally, a universal remote that actually allows you to pack away all your other remotes. The Harmony 1100 can, if you're patient, be programmed to handle even the smallest function and in whatever order you prefer. It will take time to tweak all the settings to you liking, but the end result is well worth it. I don't know how I ever lived with my electronics before! Read more

Replaced old computer programmed remote with this Logitech 1100 (based on a recommendation) and I am happy with it. Sometimes it seems a little buggy when trying to download the new information from computer to the remote. Love how it is compatible with practically all equipment and was only medium difficulty to program on my own. Would buy this again. Read more

I've had this remote now for two years and I've been chuffed to bits with it. OK, the wife occassionally struggles to use it as she points it all over the place when pressing the button, but for someone who gets fed up with too many remotes - this is extremely powerful and amazing. I've just upgraded to Tivo and although I needed to search the web for advice on the right codes (cisco CT8685) Its now running a treat. Read more
