One feature of the product is its switching capability. With other home theater devices, a specific video out is defined for each. Video 1 is for dvd and video 2 is for another device for example. With this product, the switching is done with the receiver which makes it easier. It has HDMI connectivity combined with the Active Intelligence which provides instant detection of optimal audio and video signals from any other connected component or device. The product is XM satellite radio ready and supports AM and FM radio bands.

    The spec sheet in this Sony is a mixed bag: there are no multi-channel analogue inputs, nor proper binding posts for the speaker cabling, giving a distinctly low-rent impression. On the flipside, there’s a fine auto set-up system, and HDMI-switching. In fact, the Sony is the only receiver in its price class to accept PCM audio via its HDMI input, giving access to superior audio soundtracks from Blu-ray discs.     I purchased the Sony DG710 after an older Sony kicked the bucket (to be fair, it was 10 years old). Everyone has their own setups, so here's mine: Wharfedale front channels Advent back channels AR subwoofer DVD player component audio DVR component audio PS2 optical audio Wii composite audio PC composite audio Unlike most, I prefer to run the video sources straight to the TV so they don't have to use this receiver as a passthrough.
