"Do your reading, know what you're gettiing. For all those who say that the product didn't deliver on what they thought, don't think about it, just understand what you'er getting. HDMI pass through, no audio, check. DMPort to use my integrated Ipod dock, check. The receiver set up and is being used exactly as advertised and really no reason to look further. Not running a movie theatre here so why pay more for bells and whistles which I'll never use. Excellent product for... Read more
I bought this receiver, along with a Blu-Ray player, for its HDMI inputs. Hidden in the fine print of the product description are the words "pass-through", which apparently means it can "pass through" audio to a TV via HDMI, but not to speakers which are connected to the receiver. The unit is good for the price. I have Polk Audio speakers in a 5.1 setup and they sound great. I have a Dell Studio connected through coax and regular audio inputs. I also have a SciAtlanta HD box from DVI to HDMI run to the pass-through and TOSLINK. Ioccasionally have to change the audio depending on the channel I am watching but overall I am happy with the unit. The HDMI pass-through is just that, pass-through. I thought I could component in and HDMI out but I was... Read more
My 9 year old receiver finally died. Complete set up took about two hours, but it took me a 1/2 hour to get out the old receiver and components to make way for the new one. Once out of the box it was a really easy set up. For Video: My Blu-ray player through HDMI connector goes directly to the HDMI in on TV. My FIOS HD DVR box via HDMI goes directly into the TV. For Audio: Blu-ray to new receiver via optical; FIOS HD DVR to new receiver via optical. I have all video... Read more
I started looking to replace my 5 year old HTIB with a current technology HTIB to compliment my 1080p TV. However, after much research, both on the web and on foot, I found that I could put together a better system for the same cost or less. The challenge was to get the best for the least amount of money. The Sony STR-DG520 met all of my requirements with regard to the cost to benefit ratio. The HDMI works flawlessly, the digital audio is full and pronounced. I am... Read more
