  1. Test Bench: Onkyo TX-SR605 A/V Receiver

    12 December 2007

, the TX-SR605 showed just how technically accomplished mass-produced electronics can be today, with perfectly flat frequency response and perfect D/A linearity to -90 dB (and beyond). Both are as good results as I’ve measured, and while my memory isn’t infallible, I believe this to be the first time these two particular aces have been drawn by the same unit. The Onkyo’s S/N results on our dithered-silence tests were slightly "better-than-perfect" in theoretical terms... Read more

  3. Onkyo TX-SR605 A/V Receiver

There's no point in making you slog through mundane bits about size, weight, number of inputs, and whether or not the remote control should ever have seen the light of day before we get to the exciting part. What most sets this receiver apart from the others on the market is the presence of two HDMI 1.3a inputs. Furthermore, the TX-SR605 is the first AV receiver we've seen that includes built-in decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Read more

I purchased the Onkyo TX-SR605B because I needed something inexpensive to fill in for my brand New Marantz SR7001 that took a dump on me in the first two weeks of ownership. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the performance of the little Onkyo. ... Read more

I purchased this AV Receiver as part of a HDTV/Receiver/Speaker package, but purchased the receiver from another vendor because the silver version of the 605 was no longer available from Amazon. It now appears to me that TX-SR606 model has been released, replacing the 605. My review is of the 605, but the feature set seems similar with one exception. Where the 605 offers 2 HDMI 1.3 inputs the 606 model offers 4. I can see how 2 HDMI inputs might not be enough for some... Read more

Did not want to bust the piggy bank when trying to piece together a downstairs home theater system. Spend what you want, but if you are trying to get the best bang for the buck - this receiver does the job. Features are abundant compared to others in the price range. Power is adequate...gives nice clean sound. Simply put, this receiver is popular... Only POSSIBLE drawback - runs very warm/hot - (no cooling fan). Onyko did right by this receiver... Super features for n... Read more

  1. PS3 + 42" HD Plasma + 5.1 Home Theater = How?

Onkyo TXSR605, Denon AVR2308CI, Denon AVR1908, Pioneer VSX90TXV are all good recievers that are going to get the job done. As for DVD's, it's kind of an endless list. You have a budget in mind? -Nick-
