Summary: Very good scanner, I have worked on several of these for customer's. Now that most police radio's are switching over to P-25 9600 baud rate, you experience LSM (Linear Simulcast Modulation) issues with scanners.
Excerpt: Got this scanner on Friday night after work.Took me about 3hrs to program. The frist 2 hrs. reading.Best way is to download software.Once you understand the Radios you are trying to listen to its easy.It does come preloaded with states. Just take your time and read. You can't buy this and turn it on.
Pros: Clear Signal, Good Audio, Lightweight, Rugged
Excerpt: I am a licensed ham and scanner user for 35 years, and this was very difficult to program out of the box, but, not impossible. You need a lot of patience and you need a software program to even have half a chance to program this unit. It does not work like your "Father's Bearcat Scanner".
Pros: Colorful Display Is Nice, Fairly Good P25 P1 Audio, Good 3600baud Digital, Strong Audio
Cons: Bad On Simulcast Systems, Burns Thru Rechargeables, Instructions On Cd-rom, Needs Software To Program, No Phase Ii P25 Reception, Preloaded Is Out-dated, Very Difficult To Program
Excerpt: very poor reception, live within 3 miles of dispacher center and can't hear them. asked for help from Radio Shack and they can't do anything, (I think I knew more then they did, they didn't know how to turn it on or off, I had to show them)
Can't pay that amount and not hear calls, I am...
Excerpt: For the price very poor reception along with being complicated to program.
Other Radio Shack scanners that I own are rock solid with great performance .
Seems like Uniden needs to listen to the folks that are the average Joes using this
product.
Cons: Complicated Controls, Difficult To Program, Drains Battery, Poor Reception, Short Range
