Excerpt: I was skeptical at first to add this Uniden digital scanner to my collection, especially considering the hugh arsenal of scanners I already own. But when my purchased arrived, I was up and running within an hour. Keep in mind! Any modern day digital or analogue scanner will come with a modest to a steep learning curve. Patience is of value here.
Pros: Compact Light Weight, Dependable, Good Voice Quality, Great value, Loaded With Features
Excerpt: can be dificult to program if you have never done one before. audio must be adjusted per chanell with offset feature. i would like to have more offset capability. had to buy the rs232 adapter to connect to my computer, USB not included.
Excerpt: Right out of the box, I can easily program the first channel. Using the scroll button on top of the unit I can easily customize the channel with the text, the PL or DPL or if it uses digital. Then scroll down to volume offset...this allows this frequency to be louder or quieter than the others. Hit "hold" button and it saves the channel.to enter the next channel, simply type in the numbers of the next frequency, then the menu takes you to the settings..
Pros: Clear Signal, Good Audio, Lightweight, Rugged
Excerpt: very poor reception, live within 3 miles of dispacher center and can't hear them. asked for help from Radio Shack and they can't do anything, (I think I knew more then they did, they didn't know how to turn it on or off, I had to show them)<br />Can't pay that amount and not hear calls, I am returning it.
Excerpt: I bought this BCD396XT scanner in 2009. I havent been able to use it because I cant figure out how to program it. Uniden bragged about what a great digital scanner it is. I have the older BC245XLT which is a fantastic unit easy to program. In my opinion this BCD396XT is a waste of money and time.
Cons: Complicated Controls, Difficult To Program, Drains Battery
