Summary: I bought this as a gift and it is exactly what the recipient wanted. Additionally, the price was more than $50 less that I could buy it for locally. I had previously ordered a lesser model not knowing that it would not suit his needs. I was extremely pleased with the return process on my initial order. I simply put the packing slip inside the package and mailed it off. Amazon promptly refunded my full purchase price PLUS the original "expedited" shipping costs!!
Summary: Great little scanner. The biggest drawback is it does not have a numberical entry keypad so an existing frequency must be selected then you scroll up or down to the desired frequency (it can then be saved). Since I like to enter my frequencies in ascending order this works fairly well, albeit a little slow. I also like the preset bands. This allows exploration as well as instant use when in a new area.
Summary: I have had a scanner before. I got a cheap on with a tiny antenna and got rid of it. This scanner is great because it comes with lots of extras like a car power adapter and window mount antenna along with its standard antenna. [...] None of my locals picked up with the pre-programmed scanning, but after visiting this site, I had every possible local Freq programmed into the private bank. Very cool.
Summary: I ordered this scanner and returned it as soon as I got an RMA number. I thought this is the worst scanner I have ever owned and I have owned several. The programable bank will accept the same frequency as many times as you add it. The scanner will not tell you the frequency is already in the bank, so when you are scanning and the scanner stops on a frequency and you add it it always accepts it even if it already exists.
Summary: I purchased this scanner to listen solely to the air band in my area. It took about 15 minutes to set up the radio and program in the ten or so frequencies I needed. Reception was good. It was at first a little difficult to delete frequencies--essentially you have to overwrite a frequency you wish to delete--it's not as simple as deleting it. But no biggie, because once I have the frequencies I need in the radio, very little reason to change.
Summary: Nice little mobile scanner. I found this a great deal for an 800 MHz scanner. This one replaced my obsolete hand held scanner by Uniden that I had owned for over ten years and only went to 512 MHz. The only reason that I did not give this one five stars is the fact that the reception is not as clear and precise as my original scanner. I had to end up installing an outdoor antenna to boost reception and now it works fine.
