Ys The Oath in Felghana

Family Friendly Gaming
2 February 2013
  • Excerpt: Ys The Oath in Felghana on the Playstation Portable (PSP) is a remake of Ys III. Remakes can be fantastic things, or they can show how far a series has come. A lot of time, effort, and energy went into Ys The Oath in Felghana. Fans of the original should appreciate it. As a critic I found things to like, and things that I was not so pleased with. Patience my friends, we will get to it.

Review: Ys: The Oath in Felghana

  • Conclusion: If you like the sensibilties and styles of JRPGs but you want something faster-paced and more hands-on, Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a fantastic choice. It’s fast, looks great, and the enhanced features of the remake clean things up into a great experience. It seems that Steam is the perfect platform for niche games with cult appeal like this to find a wider audience, so we hope XSEED will keep it up with more releases of Ys and other cult classics.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana Review

GameSpot
8 December 2010
  • Summary: Adol the Red has some trouble finding his footing, but his sword remains true in this remake of an Ys classic.
  • Pros: Powerful bosses make you work for your supper, Magic and melee combine for fast-paced, efficient action, Scalable difficulty suits button mashers and experts alike
  • Cons: Unmapped dungeons leave you running in circles, 3D environments don't translate depth well

Ys: The Oath in Felghana

Gaming Evolution
29 November 2010
  • Conclusion: Ys: Oath in Felghana is an excellent addition to the series, and for western fans eager to gobble up the whole story, this is an opportunity that cannot be missed. Growing up I always knew of the existence of Ys, but it was never very big (or easy to find) in my area. I’m willing to bet by the time Nihon Falcom and XSEED are through, Ys 1-XX will be on the PSP for all to enjoy with English text and terrible (terribly AWESOME!) dub voice acting.

  • Excerpt: Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a remake of the original Ys III: Wanderers of Ys, and it’s pretty awesome. The original was a 2D sidescroller, and Oath in Felghana has changed it to run off of something based on The Ark of Napishtim engine, which is 3D.

  • Excerpt: The Ys legacy spans all the way back to the 16-bit days, when the original Ys Book I & II were released for the Turbo Grafx 16 (still my most favourite system ever) and the Sega Mega Drive. Since that time, we’ve been treated to a number of adventures in the Falcom series, continuing onto the Genesis and SNES and eventually working its way to the Playstation 2.

  • Excerpt: Ys: The Oath in Felghana is the second PlayStation Portable title from Falcom to hit North America as part of the company's partnership with XSEED Games. Like many Falcom games, Oath has a long history, as this is not its first incarnation. The Oath in Felghana was first released on the PC in Japan back in 2005 before being ported to the PSP.

Ys: The Oath In Felghana

Digital Chumps
6 November 2010
  • Conclusion: Oath in Felghana is easily consumed without feeling disposable. While this defaults its position as neither poor nor exceptional, its status as a classic piece of content along with its streamlined playability allows it to err on the side of greatness. At first, dumping out four Ys games in six months might have seemed like a cash-grab, but XSEED is well aware of what they're doing with Falcom's venerable series.
