World Tour Soccer

Playstation Illustrated
24 May 2006
  • Excerpt: World Tour Soccer may look good for a handheld game, but it isn’t one of the “crown jewels” of the PSP launch lineup. World Tour Soccer is definitely the best looking handheld soccer game out there; it sports colorful 3D players in impressive looking stadiums. The animations are fluid, but at the same time, a little too quick to give that real-life impression.

The Laser
24 May 2006
  • Excerpt: World Tour Soccer 2002 is a decent, if bare bones simulation of the sport on the PS2. While many have complained of the hit-or-miss quality of 989 Sports titles in the past, this is a pretty decent game. While this is not as comprehensive as some competing titles, is still a satisfying and fun sports title.

  • Excerpt: It’s pretty common knowledge that soccer, or football as it’s more commonly referred to, is one of the world’s most popular sports. Thanks to global competitions like the World Cup and the Olympics, people around the globe are dedicated to a squad with near religious fervor. So you can just imagine how accurate any soccer game has to be to uphold these high standards, especially on a new system. Quite a large hurdle for a PSP game to clear.

  • Excerpt: for the PS2. Clay Shaver gave the title a 2 out of 5, writing that "if you want to have a little fun in a slightly more arcade-like title with every team under the sun and almost any player you can imagine, give it a try.

  • Conclusion: World Tour Soccer is a solid launch title for the PSP, offering an enjoyable soccer experience. With the arrival of EA Sports’ FIFA Soccer soon, it should be interesting to see how the two stack up. But I would say that if you are in the market for a soccer game for your PSP, World Tour Soccer would not be a bad choice by any stretch of the imagination.
